#2454 – Recent Life Under Stepwise Lockdown Relaxation

on

This weekend was a long weekend-ish here in the Netherlands as Thursday was the Ascension Day. And guess what, I did not realize that it was a public holiday literally until the Wednesday before! Lol. Yeah, not realizing (the rare) public holidays is truly a COVID era thing for me (I already noticed this last year), as usually I am aware of these as I plan for trips somewhere around the holidays, something which I obviously can’t do these days.

Anyway speaking of COVID, more relaxation measures have been introduced in the Netherlands, which really is a relief. As of this coming Wednesday, gyms (and other indoor sporting facilities) will be allowed to open! Yeay! As I shared previously, I have had some concerns as after five months, I have started to find jogging boring and so I notice I have been trying to find some excuses here and there to not jog. Geez. So it’s nice that now there will even be more options for sports and stay healthy.

My club’s internal tournament has also resumed, so it’s nice to be able to have some (friendly) competition again. Even though in the past a few months I have regularly played some matches with some friends, of course a competition is different. The outcome of the match in it would have some consequences, so there’s the pressure element, haha.

Restaurants, cafes, and bars have been allowed to (partially) open too if they have outdoor areas, though only for a limited hours (only from 12:00 to 18:00 right now, but this will be expanded to between 6:00 and 20:00 soon. And so this weekend some colleagues and I decided to grab a coffee at a cafe, just because we (finally) could! Haha. It was also nice to be able to meet and talk face to face, as since the first lockdown last year, we have only met virtually through video conference.

Speaking of COVID, the Dutch government has authorized the sales of COVID-19 rapid self-test here, and this can now be purchased in supermarkets. I finally saw one in a supermarket today; and simply because I was curious, I got one just to see how it was (I don’t have symptoms or anything), haha. It was fairly straight-forward to use (The only thing was that I didn’t know if I went deep enough into my nostrils, haha), and the outcome was easily interpreted as well. As for me, unsurprisingly, the result was negative šŸ˜€ .
