At first I didn’t plan to write about this part of the trip given that this was only my usual Paris to Amsterdam flight, albeit in Europe Business Class, haha. But then I realized that in many ways, this particular flight was actually unique and wasn’t quite like my regular CDG-AMS flight; which, I think, made it worth a standalone post πŸ˜€ .

Paris’ Charles De Gaulle Airport wasn’t like its usual self this morning. As I made my way to Air France’s lounge at Terminal 2F, I noticed that all of the duty free shops at the airport were closed, quite likely due to COVID-19. This certainly made the atmosphere felt quite ‘eerie’, even though there were still quite many passengers around this morning. Btw, I got a few ‘looks’ from some of these passengers as I was still wearing my face mask from my flight from Hanoi, as Vietnam Airlines required all passengers to wear masks. Oh the cultural difference…

A special rule for Air France Lounge at Paris due to COVID-19

The Air France Lounge had also been adjusted with the COVID-19 situation. My favorite part of the lounge, the lower level, was closed off. And there was an attendant in the food section taking orders from guests rather than the usual self-service buffet setup. The flip side was that there was no queue for the shower, whereas the last time I had to wait for almost an hour! Operating at half of its capacity, the lounge itself was still quite busy this morning, though not overcrowded as well.

I was excited for my short flight to Amsterdam today. And not because it would be in Europe Business Class, but rather because KLM deployed PH-BCL for this flight today! PH-BCL was the last Boeing 737-800 EVER to be produced! And not only that, this plane also featured KLM’s new Boeing 737 seats and interior, which I had never flown with before! Haha πŸ˜€ .

Long story short, it was then the time to board. I boarded PH-BCL and then settled onto my 1A seat, haha πŸ˜† . As in the norm of intra-European flights, business class seats were simply economy class seats with blocked middle seats. Though in the case of KLM, the seats also had some extra legroom just like in Economy Comfort (which I got for free with my Platinum status πŸ˜› ).

Great legroom on KLM’s new Boeing 737-800

The new interior felt really fresh, partly because of the Boeing SkyInterior but also because of the seats and bulkheads colors which were ‘lighter’ than the older interior. The new seats also looked really cool, and was also equipped with adjustable headrests too unlike the older seats. Having said that, these new seats’ padding wasn’t as ‘plush’ as the older seats, at least it felt like so, that after a while it could get a little bit uncomfortable.

Not long after (the flight wasn’t full today), boarding completed and we were given the green light to depart. Safety demonstration, as usual, was performed manually by the crew; and we then took off from runway 27L before making a u-turn towards Amsterdam.

After take-off the crew closed the curtain separating the cabins. As this was a short flight to Amsterdam, I thought the purser would be in a rush-mode for the service. But I was wrong, as he was really laid-back, which I think was actually good service, though it made me feel quite ‘nervous’ given that I usually liked to take my time, haha. Anyway a small breakfast was served which consisted of hot rolls with salmon, yoghurt, and fruit. I, of course, accompanied it with a cup of coffee and a glass of water.

I finished the small breakfast quite quickly, actually, which by that time we had already started our descent towards Schiphol. I asked for a refill of my coffee too, which was served with a cookie, haha πŸ™‚ .

Extra coffee and cookies before landing

Long story short, not long after we landed at Schiphol’s infamous Polderbaan which meant quite a long taxi to Pier C where the plane would park today. Schiphol felt quite ‘eerie’ already this morning. The pier and gates were not nearly as busy as on normal days, though there was a really long line at the transfer area (understandably, given the many cancellations and rescheduling which had been taking place crazily like wild fire at this point).

The last ever Boeing 737-800 EVER produced, KLM’s PH-BCL

As usual, it took a while until my luggage appeared at the luggage belt (at least they did not lose it like earlier this year though). From there, I took the train to get back to Amsterdam. And here, my two weeks plus trip to Southeast Asia this Spring officially ended.

THE END.

Kursi 1A baru Boeing 737-800nya KLM

Setelah lepas landas, gorden pembatas kabin dipasang.
