#2356 – A Christmas Market Weekend in Berlin

ENGLISH

Germany’s Christmas Market is very well-known as an attraction to visit in the weeks prior to Christmas every year. Even so, in the nine plus years I have lived in Europe, I have only been to one, that was in Frankfurt three years ago, haha. So I told myself that I would like to go to another one this year, though of course preferably one in another city.

Berlin Christmas Market

For that, I saw a good ticket deal for a weekend in Berlin at the very end of November. I googled the event date first before finalizing the purchase to make sure that the Christmas Market would have opened by then (It would have been a silly mistake if I bought the non-refundable ticket only to find out that the Christmas Market wouldn’t yet be opened on my date of travel, lol 😆 ). And indeed it would have been, in fact it would be the first weekend of the event in Berlin!

Long story short, I went to the Christmas Market that was located at the square around the Neptune Fountain in Mitte. In fact, the Christmas Market enclosed the fountain, and very fittingly, a circular ice-rink was erected surrounding the fountain!

My impression: Man it was SO crowded! Lol 😆 . Looking at my post from Frankfurt three years ago, actually I wrote the same thing but, somehow, overtime I “forgot” about it. Though, perhaps it might have something to do with this weekend being the first weekend of the event as well, haha.

Drinking a weißer glühwein at the Berlin Christmas Market

This time, I was able to get myself a weißer (white) glühwein. And now I can tell you with certainty that three years ago I must have had the standard red one; as I most definitely like the white one much better, haha. Just like three years ago, the glühwein cost €3 but with a deposit of €3 for the mug which would be refunded upon returning the mug.

The atmosphere overall was certainly really festive. Aside from the ice-rink, there was a Merry-Go-Round, a swing ride, and a ferris wheel as well. Though, as with pretty much everything in Germany, you would definitely need to bring some cash as I don’t think any of the vendors accepted payment with card (debit or credit).

Photobombed at the Berlin Christmas Market

Overall, the Christmas Market was fun. I could really tell that people really enjoyed it and, most importantly, “cared” about it which, in my opinion, made the atmosphere alive. Though, the downside of that was that it was really, really crowded where at some point it would be difficult to just move around; and certainly it was super difficult to get a selfie because I kept getting photobombed! Haha 😛

BAHASA INDONESIA

Kesanku: Wow Christmas Marketnya rame BANGET! Hahaha 😆 .

Haha 😛
