Getting to Singapore

Of the two daily non-stop flights between Yogyakarta and Singapore, I chose to fly with Silk Air, Singapore Airlines’ regional arm, this time.

I was dropped at Terminal B of Adisutjipto Airport (it was before New Yogyakarta International Airport opened their operation for international flights), and I just realized that it would be my first time departing from this terminal! Haha 😛 . I waited at a Coffee Bean, and about twenty minutes before scheduled boarding time, I cleared immigration. There was a second security check, which I did not know nor expect at all so I had bought a mineral water for Rp 10K (which was an outrageous price in Indonesia) which I now had to throw away. At least they provided free mineral water refill inside, haha.

Anyway, today’s flight would be operated with Silk Air’s Boeing 737-800 reg 9V-MGF. Boarding started a little bit late because of the late arrival of 9V-MGF from Singapore, but it was not bad. I settled onto my 7A seat, and it was nice that 7B was empty. The legroom was okay, standard economy class legroom with a full-service airline.

We then took off from runway 09. This take-off had to be of one of the fastest speed that I have had, though, it really felt like we were moving really fast! Haha 😛 . We then made a u-turn towards Singapore, where I was presented with a bird eye’s view of Yogyakarta.

See you, Jogja!

There was no IFE screen on board a Silk Air’s aircraft, as they streamed the content. They had an iOS app which we could download before hand, or we could access it manually on board. The content was nice, though as I said, I was not really a fan of a streamed IFE so I did not really use it; except for checking the map. There were, though, overhead screens.

Not long after take-off, the flight attendant distributed the meal service. The choices were chicken nasi lemak or fish pasta. Obviously I went for the former, which thankfully was only a little bit spicy, haha. It was quite good too.

It was overall an uneventful and nice flight with Silk Air. It was a little bit bumpy above Sumatra but it was the norm in this region, haha. We landed smoothly at runway 02L. I got off the plane, cleared immigration, took my luggage, and … I was back in Singapore!

Singapore

Singapore was overall nice, very hot and humid though, but still “cool”, haha 😛 . I bought a new EZ Link card to get around the city. There were also a couple of new MRT lines (since the last time I visited, that was in 2015) which made going around much more convenient.

A new EZ Link

My first destination in Singapore was the Marina Bay area, partly because I was inspired by Ajeng‘s Instagram posts from a few days prior. Gardens by the Bay in the evening looked like a great idea; especially that the last time I visited it during the day! 😀

The land of Crazy Rich

I first visited The Shoppes to have some dinner, then I walked around the broadwalk to enjoy Singapore’s amazing skyline view. From there, I walked towards Marina Bay Sands to get to Gardens by the Bay.

I was surprised to see that Gardens by the Bay was super crowded. Like, hundreds of people literally just sat wherever they could. It was such an unexpected view. But apparently it was because of the upcoming light show (I did not know that, so I was lucky I was there at the right time, haha 😛 ). The light show was really cool, though, which was a combination of playing the lights on the supertrees and some matching music!

The next day, as my hotel wasn’t that far away from Bugis, I decided to walk to the famous Haji Lane. Of all my previous visits to Singapore, somehow I had never been there! Haha 😛 .

Haji Lane, Singapore

Haji Lane turned out to be nice and Instagrammable, though of course there were tons of other tourists wanting to take some pictures too which made it a bit difficult, haha. While I was there I also stopped by at All Things Delicious to try out their brownies, which indeed was really good!

I then went to the Orchard area, because for brunch I would like to have a serving of my favorite noodle soup: a minced meat noodle at a food court at the Cavenagh Road. So I was glad to see that the booth was still there. Even though apparently the price for a serving of minced meat noodle had gone up by $1 since 2015, haha.

I then walked along Orchard, bought a cup of coffee, and, of course, a chocolate uncle ice cream! It was so perfect for the hot and humid weather of Singapore at the time!

From there, I went to the City Hall area, which was not super touristic even though there were several beautiful buildings and statues there. Then in the afternoon, I went to Clarke Quay for some dinner.

A fine afternoon in Clarke Quay

After checking out from my hotel in the morning the next day, I went to Vivo City. And up until today, this mall is still my favorite mall in Singapore, haha. It was very crowded that day, though, perhaps because it was a Saturday. I had lunch at a food court there, where I ordered a Hainan chicken rice because … Singapore! Haha 😛 .

The Sentosa broadwalk

Vivo City was nice. I killed some time there, just wandered around aimlessly, before going back to my hotel to pick my luggage up in the afternoon. From the hotel, I took the MRT to Changi Airport.

Hore. Legroom-nya oke lah, standar legroom kelas ekonomi di maskapai full service.

Pesawat lepas landas dari landasan pacu 09. Take-off ini pastilah salah satu take-off dengan kecepatan paling tinggi yang pernah aku lalui dah, beneran ngebut banget rasanya! Haha 😛 . Pesawat kemudian memutar balik menuju Singapura, sehingga aku mendapatkan pemandangan kota Yogyakarta dari atas.

Sampai jumpa, Jogja!

Negaranya Crazy Rich

Dari sana, aku berjalan-kaki menuju Marina Bay Sands untuk menuju Gardens by the Bay.

Aku kaget Gardens by the Bay-nya rame banget.

Gardens by the Bay dan Marina Bay Sands di waktu light show

Peanut-butter brownies-nya All Things Delicious

Kalah pamornya dibanding Gardens By The Bay, Sentosa, dll.
