#2245 – Tennis Lesson, Snow, and Mark Rutte

ENGLISH

This week, finally I had my tennis lesson! Haha 😛 .

You know, it was supposed to start two weeks ago but as I shared, it had to be cancelled back then because it was snowing here in Amsterdam so the (outdoor) court was in no shape to be used. But then, last week it was snowing again here in Amsterdam, so last week’s lesson had to be cancelled as well. Darn!

This is a great example of why many people here in Europe don’t like snow that much. It gets between a lot of activities! As for me, though, overall I still love snow. I don’t mind the cold (I mean the Dutch cold, which in general isn’t that “bad”, haha 😛 ); and I still find it very beautiful, especially when the snow is falling down, and it leaves a pristine view like this in Amsterdam:

Snowy Amsterdam in 2019

Just pure beauty!

But as with anything, nothing is perfect, just like snow. So the fact that I still like overall perhaps means that I have come to accept and learned to live with its “downside” too, haha 😛 .

Anyway speaking of this week, it was quite exciting at work too because … I met Mark Rutte! For those who is not familiar with this name, he is the current Prime Minister of the Netherlands! 😱 Earlier this week he paid a visit to my office so a pop up firechat (pretty much like an internal talkshow, haha 😛 ) was organized where he could interact with us.

And obviously I was going to attend this event! Haha 😛 . I came like 20 minutes early where, surprisingly for me, the room had almost already been full! Lol 😆 . Luckily I still managed to get a standing spot at the back of the room; as many other colleagues couldn’t even physically enter the room! Haha 😛 .

I might feel a little star struck, haha. You know, seeing a famous figure right before your own eyes whom you normally see on television or in news articles; and then realized that he was also just a “real” human being, haha. I was impressed, though. Just like with pretty much anything in the Netherlands, it didn’t feel like there was a “hierarchy” between us, where he interacted with us all in almost what felt like a “horizontal” level. He was certainly very knowledgeable, as we bombarded him with many questions over many different topics! And he was very … Dutch, as he was really direct in the way he spoke; but had great sense of humor as well, haha 😛

Too bad I didn’t get the chance to take a picture together, though, haha. But nonetheless, this week has been an interesting week for me! 😛

Mark Rutte. Sorry for the low quality picture 😛

BAHASA INDONESIA

Mark Rutte. Maaf ya kualitas fotonya seadanya ini 😛 .
