Geneva

Geographically, Geneva is located in the Alps at one end of the Lake Geneva. So as you would imagine that is a recipe for beauty. The combination of the lake and the mountainous view looked very beautiful to me, especially now that I live in the Netherlands, lol😆 . While this might make you expect the temperature to be quite cool, it was actually not. As a matter of fact, I found it to be much warmer in Geneva than in the Netherlands!

And also as what you would expect from a Swiss city, Geneva was very clean. And this adjective could be applied to pretty much every aspect of the city, including the lake:

The water was so clear the lake bed was visible
The water was so clear the lake bed was visible

Yes, the water of the lake was so clean and clear that even from about 2.5 – 3 meters above the surface, I could see the bed of the lake! 😲😲😲

There are also many tourist attractions in Geneva. Two of the most prominent are Jet d’eau and the United Nations (UN) Office. Jet d’eau is a large fountain in Lake Geneva where water is jetted to an altitude of up to 140 meters by two pumps.

As you can see in the photo above, it is huge! For sure you would not miss it! Lol😆

The UN Office is also a prominent attraction in Geneva. Actually this is one reason that makes Geneva very multi-cultural. The office, however, is located quite in the suburb of the city. So if pretty much every other attraction is within walking distance in the city center, it would be best to take the tram (line 15) to get to the UN Office.

My friend told me that we could actually enter the office and the gardens inside were also beautiful. However, during my visit, I did not have the time to do so unfortunately.

As The Amazing Race (TAR) fans would know, one leg of TAR season 28 was in Geneva where Brittany and Jessica were eliminated in that episode. Obviously they visited both Jet d’eau and the UN Office, haha😆 . From this episode, I also learned about the existence of the longest wooden bench in the world. The bench was part of the detour task where teams had to count how many people could sit on the 120 meters length bench (190-197 people).

Yes, such a random info, lol😆 . Anyway, I got myself a selfie on the bench obviously, haha😆 .

Anyway, overall I found Geneva to be a beautiful city with a lot of beautiful and instagenic spots around. However, as it was Switzerland, obviously everything also felt “over-priced”.

The Food

On my first evening, my Yelp app suggested me to go to Cafe de Paris nearby my hotel. There was only one menu this restaurant served: steak. And I love steak so I made the decision without any thinking, lol😆 . The steak looked like this:

I agree that the whole dish was definitely not the most appetizing dish in terms of the look. However, for this particular one do not get fooled by that. IT WAS AMAZING!! The meat was cooked into perfection (I requested it to be cooked medium-rare) and the salty butter sauce was especially very delicious!!

Seriously, I recommend this restaurant! The price, though? Well, first of all, let me remind you that it was Switzerland. Okay, got it? Well, it was CHF 42.50 for the entire dish. While it certainly felt quite a lot to me, considering it was Switzerland and the dish tasted yummy (You could ask for more salad and fries if you would want actually. I didn’t, it was more than enough for me), I could still accept it.

But don’t worry, there were other “cheaper” options too around Geneva, even though of course you could not compare it with the price of a similar product in other countries😆 .

Jenewa

The water was so clear the lake bed was visible
Saking jernih air danaunya, dasar danaunya pun kelihatan

Iya, informasinya random banget memang, haha😆 . Tetapi jelas dong aku selfie disana, haha😆 .

Delicious steak in Geneva

Hahahaha😆 . Makanan Cinanya itu modelnya apa? Apakah semacam wok gitu? (nasi atau mie goreng)

        1. Ah, I see, dulu Wok itu penyelamat nyawa rekening bank sewaktu masih bergantung sama beasiswa S2, ahahahah😆 .

    1. Iya, air mancurnya tinggi banget! Bahkan dari pesawat aja udah kelihatan sewaktu mau mendarat, hahaha😆 . Iyaa, kotanya nggak begitu adem (kalau siang di musim panas). Kalau malam ya lumayan sejuk sih, hahaha😆 .
