Getting to Geneva

To get to Geneva, I had a transit in Frankfurt because originally I planned to take Kuwait Airways’ fifth freedom flight between the two cities. However, I was disappointed by Kuwait Airways where I was moved without any notice to a Lufthansa CityLine flight. I have explained my disappointment in this post.

Anyway,

KL 1763 (Amsterdam – Frankfurt)

KLM Cityhopper logo
Flight: KLM KL 1763 operated by KLM Cityhopper
Equipment: Embraer ERJ190 reg PH-EXE
ATD: 08:29 CET (Runway 18L of AMS)
ATA: 09:10 CET (Runway 25R of FRA)

I arrived at Schiphol at around 6 AM and, as usual this year, headed to the KLM Crown Lounge. At around 7:30 AM I headed to the gate. I was happy to see that the flight would be operated with PH-EXE, a KLM Cityhopper’s eight month old Embraer 190, today.

Anyway, boarding commenced normally and we departed soon after. We took off from runway 18L of Schiphol Airport and it was the usual short-haul regular KLM flight. At about 9:10 AM, we landed at runway 25R of Frankfurt Airport.

Transitting at Frankfurt Airport

My flight to Geneva was scheduled to leave at 17:40. So I had about eight hours of transit at Frankfurt Airport 😐. On top of that, my second flight would be on Lufthansa so did not have access to the lounge. Moreover, it was raining today so I did not feel like going to the city of Frankfurt itself.

I don’t remember anymore why I chose the KL1763 flight in particular out of KLM’s five daily flights between Amsterdam and Frankfurt. My guess was that this was the cheapest option which I had at that point and the difference in fare which I saw did not justify the more convenient transit time, lol😆 .

Anyway, long story short the eight hours of transit time passed (stories about what I did will be posted in a separate post, I think, lol😆 ); and I found myself in Terminal 1 of Frankfurt Airport for my flight to Geneva.

LH 1226 (Frankfurt – Geneva)

Lufthansa Cityline

Flight: Lufthansa LH1226 operated by Lufthansa CityLine
Equipment: Bombardier CRJ900 reg D-ACND named “Meersburg”
ATD: 18:35 CET (Runway 18 of FRA)
ATA: 19:21 CET (Runway 23 of GVA)

The boarding was delayed for about 10 minutes. After which, the CRJ900 was parked in a remote stand so we had to be taken to the plane with a bus. I found the remote stand to be funnily located though, it was literally in the middle of tarmac between two giant piers of Frankfurt Airport! Haha😆 .

I was moved to this Lufthansa Cityline's flight with a Bombardier CRJ900
A Lufthansa Cityline’s Bombardier CRJ900 reg D-ACND

There was a further delay once we were all on board due to the busy late afternoon peak period at Frankfurt Airport. So our flight ended up being delayed for almost an hour (how untypical of a German😛 ). At 6:35 PM, we finally took off from runway 18 of Frankfurt Airport and headed towards Geneva.

I was excited with this flight because finally I could experience the service on board a Lufthansa flight for the first time. And based on this one flight, I have to say that the service level is pretty much similar to of KLM. A sandwich service with drinks was provided on this short-haul flight, as in any short-haul KLM flights nowadays. However, the Lufthansa’s sandwich was slightly bigger while KLM also provided a small biscuit while Lufthansa did not.

Here are two photos of the service on board flight KL1763 (Amsterdam – Frankfurt) and LH1226 (Frankfurt – Geneva) from today; both flights were of the similar distance (I had one bite already on my KLM sandwich😛 ).

Anyway, at around 7:15 PM, we were already approaching Geneva Airport. The Alps and Lake Geneva made the view upon landing beautiful too, even though in my opinion still did not beat Innsbruck Airport or Nice Airport. You can taste the view in the following landing video:

Back from Geneva

To go back to Amsterdam, I bought myself two Air France flights with a transit at Paris – CDG Airport. However, a few days before the trip, I got a notification about the Air France cabin crews’ strike which would occur that weekend which might affect my flights.

Luckily, though, my flights did not get cancelled. Only that my first flight out of Geneva was delayed for about 30 minutes but with a 3 hours of transit at Paris, this was not a problem. However, I did notice the effect of the strike in another aspect of the flights. I would subtly mention that later.

Anyway,

AF 1443 (Geneva – Paris CDG)

AF Logo
Flight: Air France AF1443
Equipment: Airbus A319-100 reg F-GRXD
ATD: 15:32 CET (Runway 23 of GVA)
ATA: 16:25 CET (Runway 27R of CDG)

I waited for my flight at the Air France/KLM lounge at Geneva Airport. The lounge was quite nice with adequate selections of snack, light meal, and drink. Geneva Airport was quite funny though where I had to go to the “French side” of the airport as I was flying to Paris.

Anyway, then I went to the gate and not long after, boarding commenced. It was a very cloudy afternoon in Geneva so the FA turned on the cabin light. What surprised me was the color of the light. Instead of the standard boring yellow light on board an A319, this time the color was peach! It was beautiful (imo)!😀

Not long after, we took off from runway 23 of Geneva Airport. Even though it was very cloudy, the take-off went very smoothly without any turbulence at all.

Not long after, the snack service was provided. Based on my experience, Air France offers the best on board service of all the European airlines which I have flown. And so it surprised me a lot today when they served this as the complimentary snack:

Snack on board my AF 1443 flight
Snack on board my AF 1443 flight

It was the super basic snack that was available in unlimited supply in any Air France lounges and was usually the service standard of a regional HOP! service. Moreover, no alcohol (beer/wine) was available on this flight. Weird. This was definitely not Air France’s level of service. But then I thought maybe because this flight might count as a domestic flight, as I was flying from the “French side” of Geneva Airport to Paris. Oh well…

Anyway, at 16:25, we landed at runway 27R of Paris – Charles De Gaulle Airport.

Transit at Paris – CDG

As usual this year, I waited for my flight at the Air France’s lounge at Terminal 2F of Paris – CDG Airport. It was just as usual. Well, except that at one point the attendant went around offering French champagne to all the passengers there. Well, this was a first! So of course I got myself one. Lol😆

AF1188 (Paris CDG – Amsterdam)

AF Logo
Flight: Air France AF1188
Equipment: Airbus A318-100 reg F-GUGQ
ATD: 19:22 CET (Runway 09R of CDG)
ATA: 20:07 CET (Runway 36C of AMS)

The flight was only about 70% full today but boarding still went rather slowly. It felt like the passengers entered the plane in a relatively slow rate. Anyway, so we finally took off from runway 09R of Paris – CDG Airport.

Just after take-off, the FA made an announcement where they apologized that the in flight service today would not be as usual. At first I still wasn’t aware of what that meant; until I saw the complimentary service provided today:

Snack on board my AF 1188 flight
Snack on board my AF 1188 flight

It was the same level of service provided on the earlier AF1443 flight from Geneva. Having flown the Amsterdam – Paris vv flight many times with Air France, I knew for sure something was up as this was definitely not Air France’s level of service.

And then it all made sense to me. The strike! Yes, the strike must have affected the service provided on board as well. Either because somehow the ground staffs also went on strike or that the flights needed to be operated with minimum number of FAs so they downgraded the level of service to make it doable.

Well…

Anyway, at 20:07, we landed at runway 36C of Schiphol Airport. And here, my weekend trip to Geneva officially ended🙂 .

Anyway,

KL 1763 (Amsterdam – Frankfurt)

Penerbangan: KLM KL 1763 dioperasikan oleh KLM Cityhopper
Pesawat: Embraer ERJ190 reg PH-EXE
ATD: 08:29 CET (Runway 18L of AMS)
ATA: 09:10 CET (Runway 25R of FRA)

LH 1226 (Frankfurt – Geneva)

Lufthansa Cityline

Penerbangan: Lufthansa LH1226 dioperasikan oleh Lufthansa CityLine
Pesawat: Bombardier CRJ900 reg D-ACND bernama “Meersburg”
ATD: 18:35 CET (Runway 18 of FRA)
ATA: 19:21 CET (Runway 23 of GVA)

Anyway,

AF 1443 (Geneva – Paris CDG)

AF Logo
Penerbangan: Air France AF1443
Pesawat: Airbus A319-100 reg F-GRXD
ATD: 15:32 CET (Runway 23 of GVA)
ATA: 16:25 CET (Runway 27R of CDG)

Snack on board my AF 1443 flight

Wah, nggak biasanya nih! Jelas dong aku mengambil satu gelas. Huahaha😆

AF1188 (Paris CDG – Amsterdam)

Penerbangan: Air France AF1188

ATD: 19:22 CET (Runway 09R of CDG)
ATA: 20:07 CET (Runway 36C of AMS)

Snack on board my AF 1188 flight

  1. Pas baca dari atas sudah ketebak klo layanan standarnya krn mogok kerja😀 Ya daripada ga ada sama sekali kan ya😀 Btw, keren banget ya Ko awan tebal tapi ga goyang. Duh gw kalo dah mo terbang trus liat awan dah gelap lgsg keringet dingin plus banyak doa..wkwkwk

    1. Huahaha, iya Py.
