While I arrived at Stade Roland Garros some 20 minutes later than my Saturday visit, I was still one of the first spectators to enter the site today, haha😆 . Anyway, today I got a Ring 3 ticket (the furthest ring from the tennis court but offered the cheapest price) at Court Philippe Chatrier. These were the matches scheduled today:

  1. Women’s Doubles Final: [7] Ekaterina Makarova/Elena Vesnina (RUS/RUS) vs [5] Kristina Mladenovic/Caroline Garcia (FRA/FRA)
  2. Men’s Singles Final: [1] Novak Djokovic (SRB) vs [2] Andy Murray (GBR)

Exciting!

After entering the site, I went to my seat in Court Philippe Chatrier to see how the view would be from my seat. Well, it turned out it was okay but I knew it would be a bit more challenging to take good photos from up there, haha😆 . Btw, this was my outfit today:

Yeah, #TeamMurray #TeamGB

I bought a couple cups of cappuccino and a couple of French pastries for breakfast today. For some reason I wasn’t feeling that hungry this morning. Upon checking the schedule, it turned out that the women’s doubles match was scheduled to start at 11:30 AM so I decided to come back to Court Philippe Chatrier after finishing my coffees.

Then, I saw an announcement in French. Okay, I don’t speak French but I was guessing it stated that for the women’s doubles final, the seating inside Court Philippe Chatrier was free, i.e. we could sit literally anywhere. But then of course I was not sure. So when I entered Philippe Chatrier, I asked the ticket checker girl if that was the case. She confirmed it and actually said that I could sit in one of the green boxes that were literally next to Court Philippe Chatrier if I wanted to!! 😱😱😱😱😱 I mean, those seats were even closer to the court than the Ring 1 seats and those were those super expensive premium seats for premium ticket holders!! 😱😱😱😱😱 So of course I did!! I mean, who wouldn’t?

I chose one box that was still empty that was just next to the court and I quickly settled into a seat in the first row. Yeah, so I was sitting literally in the first row of Court Philippe Chatrier for a grandslam final match!! 😱😱😱😱😱 IT. WAS. SO. AWESOME!!!

1. Women’s Doubles Final: [7] Ekaterina Makarova/Elena Vesnina (RUS/RUS) vs [5] Kristina Mladenovic/Caroline Garcia (FRA/FRA)

First of all, to be consistent, from hereon I will call the team of Makarova/Vesnina as Makarova/Ayah. The reason why I am calling Elena Vesnina “Ayah” can be read in this post of my visit to Wimbledon final last year😛 .

Anyway, the match did not start evenly where Mladenovic/Garcia were solid while Makarova/Ayah were kinda shaky. In just about 20 minutes, Makarova/Ayah found themselves trailing 0–5 in the first set. But then, they started to find their groove while Mladenovic/Garcia started to make some more errors, allowing Makarova/Ayah more into the first set. However, Mladenovic/Garcia had built too much of a lead and still secured the first set 6–3. In the second set, Makarova/Ayah kept their newly found momentum while Mladenovic/Garcia struggled to find some form. Makarova/Ayah took the second set 6–2. The third set went toe to toe until 4–4. Makarova’s serve was broken and Caroline Garcia held her serve. Hence the French team won their first grandslam title together 6–3, 2–6, 6–4

After the match, I tried to get some lunch but everything was super busy. I was queuing for the gourmet restaurant but the queue went super slow. So I left and decided to just buy a French sandwich and wrap (which I also had to queue for some time).

2. Men’s Singles Final: [1] Novak Djokovic (SRB) vs [2] Andy Murray (GBR)

This match is the highlight of the tournament, I guess. I mean, a match between the number 1 vs number 2 player in the world! Both had never won Roland Garros before so whoever won would do so. Even for Djokovic, the stake was higher as (1) Roland Garros was the only grandslam title missing in his collection and (2) After winning Wimbledon 2015, US Open 2015, and Australian Open 2016, he now had a chance to complete the “Nole Slam” by winning Roland Garros 2016.

Andy Murray started the match strongly
Andy Murray started the match strongly

Murray started the match strong where he was being more aggressive. He took the first set 6–3. But then, for some reasons, the situation completely flipped since the start of the second set. Somehow, Murray found himself in defensive position almost all the time allowing Djokovic to dictate most points. I knew that Murray realized this and tried to change the momentum. But it was difficult to do so against the already on-fire world number 1. As a result, Murray started to throw in a bit of more errors.

In the end, Novak Djokovic won his 12th grandslam title, completed the Career Grand Slam, and won the Nole Slam after defeating Andy Murray in four sets 3–6, 6–1, 6–2, 6–4. Murray gave a really heartwarming runner-up speech btw, where he said that we were very lucky to be in the attendance of the completion of the Nole Slam which was such a rarity in men’s tennis; but it sucked very much for him to be in the opposite site of the net today. Awwww….

After the match, I went to buy a new pair of tennis racket dampers. Then, I left Stade Roland Garros and my 2016 visit to this grandslam tournament this year officially ended🙂 .

THE END.

  1. Final Ganda Putri: [7] Ekaterina Makarova/Elena Vesnina (RUS/RUS) vs [5] Kristina Mladenovic/Caroline Garcia (FRA/FRA)
  2. Final Tunggal Putra: [1] Novak Djokovic (SRB) vs [2] Andy Murray (GBR)

Seruuu!

Tetapi kemudian, mereka mulai menemukan momentum sementara Mladenovic/Garcia mulai membuat error, sehingga Makarova/Ayah mulai mendapatkan kontrol di set pertama. Tetapi, Makarova/Garcia sudah terlanjur unggul jauh sehingga set pertama berhasil mereka amankan 6–3. Di set kedua, Makarova/Ayah memanfaatkan momentum tersebut sementara Mladenovic/Garcia mulai kesulitan sendiri. Makarova/Ayah memenangi set kedua 6–2. Set ketiga berlangsung berimbang hingga posisi 4–4.

Setelah pertandinganya, aku mencoba mencari makan siang tetapi semua tempat makannya ramai.

Andy Murray started the match strongly
Andy Murray memulai pertandingan dengan kuat

Murray memulai pertandingan dengan kuat dimana ia bermain agresif. Akibatnya, set pertama ia amankan 6–3.

SELESAI.
