#1435 – 20 Hours Trip from ID to NL

This morning, my flight from Indonesia landed at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam; marking the end of this year’s one month trip to Indonesia. And here is the story of this trip back to the Netherlands, which also took around 20 hours; just like the departing trip one month ago πŸ™‚ .

I was scheduled to take the last Garuda Indonesia’s flight from Yogyakarta to Jakarta (GA 217) on Tuesday evening at 20:25. So I arrived at the airport at around 18:50. But then, upon check-in, where I made sure that my luggage would be tagged to Amsterdam right away, the check-in lady offered me a seat on an earlier flight, GA 219 which left at 19:25 to give me some more spare time in Jakarta for transfer, just in case. Since it was free of charge, I was like, “Why not?“. Haha. So it was probably a personal record, where my flight departed like 30 minutes after I arrived at the airport, haha.

Not long after, it was the boarding time; and I boarded the airplane: a Garuda Indonesia’s Boeing 737-8U3 reg PK-GMG flight GA 219. At 19:45, the flight took off from runway 09 of Adisucipto International Airport. See you, Yogyakarta!

See you, Yogyakarta!!

See you, Yogyakarta!!

It was a routine Yogyakarta – Jakarta flight. PK-GMG is installed with the IFE (In Flight Entertainment) system so I made use of it πŸ™‚ . About 55 minutes later, the flight landed smoothly at runway 07L of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta. Here is the landing video:

The flight parked at the remote parking area so Garuda brought us (the passengers) to the terminal with buses.

Being a transfer passenger, I followed the sign for international transfer at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. But then it turned out that the sign brought me to the normal check-in hall at the airport, haha πŸ˜† (I thought there would be a special desk or something for this). Btw, yes, I could not get my Jakarta – Amsterdam boarding pass in Yogyakarta; so I had to do another check-in in Jakarta. This is one area where Garuda can improve their Jakarta – Amsterdam service in my opinion.

And there was no designated check-in desk for Amsterdam. There were several check-in desks for all of Garuda’s international flights. The problem? Well, in the evening, Garuda operates a lot of international flights out of Jakarta to Japan, Korea, China, Australia, and the Netherlands. The result? This:

Super crowded check-in counters at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport

Finally, after about 30 minutes, I was able to check-in. Until I was asked to pay for the airport tax; which I did not anticipate since I thought Garuda’s ticket already covered the airport tax. But apparently this was only for domestic flights, haha. The problem? I only had Rp 128,000 in my wallet while the airport tax was Rp 150,000; and we could only pay in cash. So I had to take some cash from the ATM machine, which was outside the check-in area.

While I was outside, I took a snap as well :D . A busy evening at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport

Long story short, I got my boarding pass and passed the Indonesian immigration desk. Since it was still about 2.5 hours until the boarding time of my flight, I decided to wait in the lounge (since it was basically for free for me anyway as I only needed to “pay” Rp 1 with my credit card πŸ˜› ).

At 23:50, I decided to leave the lounge. Actually I still had around 20 minutes before the boarding time, but since I wanted to take some pictures of the airplane of my flight first and Soekarno-Hatta is not the airplane-photo-friendliest airport in the world, I had to spare myself some more time πŸ˜› .

Then I found out that my flight would be operated with: PK-GIA!! 😯 Yes, PK-GIA again! The exact same airplane as the one I took one month earlier from Amsterdam to Yogyakarta as GA 89! The one which brought me to Indonesia for the start of this one month Indonesia trip!! 😯 Wow, what a coincidence! What is the odd?? (Well, actually the odd is 0.2 πŸ˜› ).

At 00:10, the boarding process for GA 88 flight started. So I boarded the Boeing 777-300ER. Not long after, we left the terminal building. A little bit unusually, we took off from runway 25L of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (the runway that is closer to Terminal 1); so the taxi we had to make from Terminal 2 was quite long, haha. Here is the take-off video btw:

Not long after take-off, the supper service started. I chose the glass-noodles with chicken menu, which was delicious btw. And I had this service while watching the LIVE covering of the US Open on board! Garuda, you rock!!

After the supper, I was able to (force myself to) sleep for about two hours. I woke up when we were above India; while the in between fuel service was given. In total I had like three sandwiches btw, hahaha πŸ˜› .Β About one hour later, I turned on the LIVE US Open covering again and it was time for Serena Williams’ first round match. Yay! I did not have to miss this match!! πŸ˜€ Serena won the match 6–3, 6–1.

Not long after, the sun rose when we were somewhere above Iran. It was really beautiful! πŸ™‚ Then, I was able to have another two hour sleep before getting up while we were already in the European airspace somewhere above the Black Sea. The breakfast service was given somewhere above Romania; and I chose fried rice for breakfast.

At 09:27 local time, this announcement was made:

marking that we almost arrived at Schiphol. About 13 minutes later, we landed at runway 36R of Schiphol Airport. Here is the landing video:

The airplane parked at G03 and we disembarked the plane. I passed the immigration and luckily did not have to wait for too long (in Schiphol standard :D) for my luggage. I guess this was because apparently my luggage was tagged with “Priority” label from Yogyakarta. Yay! Thank you the check-in lady at Adisucipto Airport who not only gave me the earlier Yogyakarta – Jakarta flight, but also a priority label! πŸ˜€

Then I took the train to go back to Delft. And here, my one month Indonesia trip this year officially ended.

Haha. Jadi ini sepertinya rekor personal deh, dimana penerbanganku berangkat kira-kira 30 menit setelah aku tiba di bandara, haha.

The flight path of the GA 219 from JOG to CGK today

Sampai jumpa, Yogyakarta!

See you, Yogyakarta!!

Sampai jumpa, Yogyakarta!!

PK-GMG sendiri dilengkapi dengan fasilitas IFE (In Flight Entertainment) sehingga jelas saja aku menikmatinya πŸ™‚ .

Hasilnya? Ini deh:

Super crowded check-in counters at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport

While I was outside, I took a snap as well :D . A busy evening at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport

Garuda Indonesia's Boeing 777-300ER reg PK-GIA which would bring me to Amsterdam as GA 88

Hore! Aku bisa tidak melewatkan pertandingan ini!! πŸ˜€ Serena menang 6–3, 6–1.

A US Open LIVE covering at 38,000 Feet! Garuda, you rock!!

Penayangan LANGSUNG US Open di ketinggian 38.000 kaki! Garuda, kamu keren!!

Oh iya berapa lama perjalanan jakarta – belanda ko..?

    • zilko says:

Terbangnya sendiri sih sekitar 13,5 jam kemarin sekali jalan.

      • rianamaku says:

Wahhh lumayan cepat karena ngak pakai transit so harganya asyik juga ngak ko…

Wow udah bangun aja kamu , selamat pagi disana dan beeeeer udah dingin ya pastinya ngak sumuk lagi kaya di yogya/

        • zilko says:

  4. Arman says:

wah padahal lu liburannya sebulan ya ko kalo gak salah? udah abis aja ya… emang kalo liburan gak berasa ya ko…

btw gua perhatiin lu sangat merhatiin banget naik pesawat apa ya. gua gak pernah peduli lho pesawatnya tipe apaan. hahaha.

    • zilko says:

Iya banget!! 😦 Padahal sewaktu baru mulai bulan lalu mikirnya lama ini liburannya soalnya sebulan. Lah ini tiba-tiba udah abis aja 😦 . Kok selalu gitu ya yang namanya liburan?? Selalu cepet banget!! 😦

Hahaha, iya nih, avgeek banget ya posting-nya πŸ˜› .

Kadanh ngeceknya cuma utk lihat penerbangannya aja. Hehehe

  5. kutubuku says:

That’s odd that they cannot give you boarding pass for Jkt-AMS flight in Jogjakarta when they have already labelled your bags to your final destination?

How’s the alcohol service in GA? I have heard that in many other airlines you have to pay if you want something else than beer or wine or having drinks outside mealtime?

    • zilko says:

I know, strange right? There has been no improvement on this department since the last time I flew with GA 88 where I also had a preceding connected flight from Yogyakarta as well (that was back in 2010). This really could have been a simple (?) yet very good service by Garuda who has been trying to promote the connectivity of their Jakarta – Amsterdam (return) flight to a lot of connectivity within Indonesia.

I don’t know about the alcohol service. I only ordered some wine and sometimes beer so it was fine and I did not have to pay anything. But I don’t know whether they offer other alcoholic drinks and, if so, whether they are free of charge or not.

      • kutubuku says:

A friend of mine who usually flies with BA says that you have to pay for alcohol served outside mealtime. Same with SAS or Finnair. So I better stick with SQ for now. I don’t like to have to pay extra charges for tis and tat when I already pay bulk to the ticket price

        • zilko says:

Oh, that is a little bit annoying if we have to pay some extra charges for this and that when we are flying on a (supposedly) full service airline, haha. There are still a few facilities that I understand for being chargable though, like wifi connection when flying couch to name one for instance πŸ˜› .

  6. suriyatifang says:

Wah bisa kebetulan begitu ya Ko hehehe
Liburan sebulan uda usai ya, pasti ga rela mau pergi dari Indo πŸ˜›

  7. yance says:

Wahhhh liburannya sebulan mantapp banget ya ko…dan tau2 udah hrs balik lagi dehh…

  8. […] Then, after having dinner at home, I took all my luggage and left for Adisucipto Airport to get back to the Netherlands… […]

  9. mariskaajeng says:

      • mariskaajeng says:

nah itu dia tambahan keuntungan pake Garuda, ga bosen nunggu saat transit. tahun lalu waktu aku pake Garuda masih transit, tapi cuma 45 menit doang sih. ga berasa πŸ™‚

aku mau coba pakai Emirates tahun depan, katanya enak tuh. hehe..

        • zilko says:

Hahaha, dulu juga aku pernah naik Garuda sewaktu masih transit. Tapi waktu itu transitnya di Dubai. Saking singkatnya transitnya, jadi gak bisa jalan-jalan sebentar di Bandara Dubai-nya deh, huahaha πŸ˜† . Jadi beneran gak berasa banget. Btw, Garuda sekarang pakai pesawat terbarunya mereka lho, Boeing 777-300ER. Sewaktu masih transit itu mereka kan pakai Airbus A330-200, hehehe πŸ™‚ .

Emirates memang enak kok.

  10. Pypy says:

Emang beda yah anak Matematika..hihi.. Lgsg ngitung peluang :p

20 jam penerbangan? Meski takut terbang tapi penasaran tentu saja..hihihi πŸ˜€ Terbang jakarta manado 3 jam aja kerjaan liatin jam mulu..hahah ;D

    • zilko says:

Hahaha, soalnya dihitungnya gampang Py πŸ˜› .

20 jam nggak semuanya penerbangan sih, terbangnya cuma sekitar 1 jam (Jogja – Jakarta) + 14 jam (Jakarta – Amsterdam) aja kok πŸ˜› .
