#1265 – A Strange Day

ENGLISH

A strange thing happened at my new apartment on Thursday evening. In one of my roommates’ room, suddenly water sprayed from a hole on the floor with quite some force (there was a cap closing the hole but the cap came off from where it should be because of the force!๐Ÿ˜ฏ ). Well, we did not actually see this though because noone was in the room when it happened. But based on the evidence afterwards, this was our conclusion. But luckily, I think, the incident didn’t last very long because the impact was only in that one room and the water had not leaked out to other rooms. Even though obviously it was still quite bad and annoying.

So we knocked our neighbors’ door to ask them if they were familiar with this kind of incident in their apartment. Well, our neighbors are old Dutch couple who do not really speak English. And because out of us (my roommates and myself), I am the only one who understands and speaks Dutch to some degree, I had to be the one who handled pretty much all the conversations, hahaha. Well, it was quite a good exercise for my Dutch skill though. And it came at quite a nice timing because earlier that day, I wrote a post about my plan to take a further Dutch course to exercise and sharpen my Dutch skill further more; and I immediately got a chance just later on that evening! Hahaha๐Ÿ˜† .

Anyway, our neighbors were very very nice and were very willing to give some help. They told us that it was indeed very strange because it happened in a bedroom. They had had similar experiences but it happened in their bathroom or kitchen. So the lady told me that I needed to meet the head of the household association of the apartment (I don’t know the English word for that); and she accompanied me to meet him. And then the man checked our place and had some hypothesis of what might have happened. And they even helped us calling the apartment maintenance company to ask them to send someone to fix whatever the problem was (they even did the talking because it would be better to speak to the company in Dutch). What a nice people!๐Ÿ™‚

Later on that night, a mechanic came at our apartment to check the problem. Again, here, I could practice my Dutch skill, hahaha๐Ÿ˜† . Anyway, it turned out that the problem was not in our apartment but it was somewhere in the sewage pipes stuffs in the basement. So they were working on it for like two hours or so; and they said to us the problem was fixed.

And now we (may) have to work on some paperworks regarding the incident; because obviously the maintenance company had to be paid. Well, not that we, ourselves, are going to pay for it because in the Netherlands there is an “insurance”, sort of, for this kind of incident. Well, I am too lazy to get into details about the insurance so I am going to skip it, hahaha๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜Ž . But in a nutshell, if we indeed have to pay, we just need to fill some forms to file the claim to the insurance company.

Yeah, what a strange day indeed…๐Ÿ˜‰

BAHASA INDONESIA
