#985 – When There is (Water) Leakage in My Apartment

ENGLISH

This morning at 5 AM, when I woke up, I had to work physically hard (I mean, it was exhausting) to clean my apartment from puddle of water. Hah!?!? What the hell is going on!?!?!? Well, to answer that, let me go back in time several days.

The kitchen in my apartment uses electric stove. Well, what I want to share here is not the stove *then why do you write about the stove Zilko? Well, be patient, this stove had something to do with it :D*. Above my stove, there are pipes distributing clean water to the bathroom and sink. One day, I recognized something strange: there was steam (and hissing noise) puffing from the stove when I was cooking. Well, a little bit of steam might be normal, but this time, the amount of the steam was quite beyond what I would call normal; and the hissing noise gotta be a sign of something, right? As it was impossible that it was because a rockstar was going to somehow pop up from my kitchen with a spectacular big entrance (making use of the steam and hissing noise) *but if it were true though, it would have been super awesome! No?*, it must be because something was wrong.ย

After investigating the cause *acting like a detective here*,ย I realized that the surface of my stove was wet. Well, now the mystery of the steam and hissing voice was easily solved. It was because of this wet surface of my stove. When the stove was heating, the water which wet the stove evaporated, causing the steam; and the hissing voice was because when I was cooking, I put frying pan/pan on the stove. Hence, there was a friction between the evaporating steam and the bottom surface of the pan, causing the hiss.

Okay, that mystery was now solved. However, there was an extended question from that one that was much more important. How could the surface of my stove get wet? Weird, no? Well, apparently, it was because of those pipes above my stove! Somehow, there appeared a leakage on those pipes some time ago! The leakage was not that bad though, water was just dripping not so much. Of course I did not notice that as the water did not always drip, as sometimes it went down through the surface of the pipe, and fell down using the wall. And then it wet that stove surface.

So, the solution was simple, right? I only needed to call the carataker of my apartment and asked him to fix the pipes; and problem solved. However, one of my bad habit, underestimating minor problem, recurred. This was a minor problem, as before the pipes were fixed I basically only needed to put a bucket on my stove (while it was still off and not hot anymore of course) underneath the pipes to contain the leak. Plus, leaking water did not really cost me anything, as my rent already included water, muahahahaha๐Ÿ˜† . As a result, several times I procrastinated reporting this to the caretaker (as I was very busy in campus; hence I just, sort of, neglected this minor problem as my temporary solution worked quite well; it was better for me to focus on my campus business).

Until yesterday.

So, these past three days or so, there has been a construction work in the road near my apartment. There was a plan to install something underneath the road (I think it is either cabling or sewers). Hence, to “open” the road, they used that huge bulldozer (well, what is the name of that thing btw?). Because of the strong power, sometimes it was also shaking in my apartment when they used this heavy equipment. One time I was quite panic in the morning because I thought there was an earthquake, but apparently it was that bulldozer, hahaha.

When I got up yesterday, I was shocked to hell as there was water puddling over half of my apartment or so! I immediately thought the cause was that leaking pipes. And it was true! The bucket that I put underneath it to contain the water was already full as the night before, the discharge of the leak was crazy that my bucket could not contain it anymore! Damn!! And so that morning (before I had breakfast/showered/surfed the internet), I cleaned up those water away using a piece of cloth! It was damn exhausting! And that morning I immediately reported the problem to the caretaker.

I was looking for the cause of the worsening leak. My first guess was that construction work. This made sense. Logically: since that construction work started, this problem occurred. Technically: the vibration triggered by the work, which successfully made me think there was an earthquake, might cause the leak on the pipe to get even worse.

The problem was, I think the caretaker of my apartment read my notes late (well, because the caretaker was not there when I went to his room and I was in a hurry to go to the campus, I complaint via a letter that I put in his mailbox). Yesterday he did not check my room. Therefore, last night, there was another big leak in my apartment! Arrrrggggghhhhh!!! The different thing was, somehow, I woke up at 5 AM this morning. And it was true, there was another puddle of water! Even this time, it was even worse as more area of my apartment puddled by the water. But I was thinking: “Well, it is non-sense for me to clean up now, as in few hours it would get wet again anyway; hence it is better for me to continue my sleep now, and do the cleaning in few hours“. ย However, as I was thinking this way, I could not get back to sleep! I kept thinking about cleaning the water right here right this time. And so I had no other choice. I slaved myself to clean that water from my apartment. Then, I could continue my nice sleep, hahaha…

Lucky, this afternoon the caretaker came to my apartment; and now the pipe is fixed! Yay! No more leak!! I am happy.

Hmmm, what is the moral of this story? Well, as for me, there is something that I learnt for myself:

“Never procrastinate solving minor problem because it looks just minor. As time builds up, this minor problem can turn into a major one”

This is true, as had I reported this problem to the caretaker earlier, this problem with water puddling over my apartment would not have occurred in the first place, no? Okay, lesson learnt!!

BAHASA INDONESIA

Pagi tadi jam 5 subuh, ketika aku ngelilir bangun, aku harus bekerja fisik keras (bikin capek gitu maksudnya) membersihkan apartemenku dari genangan air. Hah!?!?

Bocornya nggak parah sih, air hanya menetes gitu saja. Jelas aja aku nggak menyadarinya karena kadang airnya kan nggak menetes jatuh, tetapi mengalir turun mengikuti alur pipa kemudian turun lewat tembok.

Ntar kalau bangun beneran, sekalian deh bersihinnya“. Tapi saudara-saudara, gara-gara mikir kayak gitu, aku malahย nggak bisa tidur lagi dong.

Yay! No more bocor!! Bahagia deh saya.

Nah, apakah moral of the story dari cerita ini?

betul sekali koooo! masalah-masalah tsb kan gak bisa terselesaikan dgn sendirinya, I mean gak bisa kan dgn didiemin aja trs the problem go away, hehe (wlo ada bbrp masalah lain yg bs begitu but not the water pipe๐Ÿ˜› )

harus kita yang cari solusi, bergerak menyelesaikannya. or get some help from the expert๐Ÿ˜€

*serius amat komennya, woy masih jam 3 subuh di surabaya woy!๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜€

    1. Yoi.

    1. iya, untungnya sekarang udah engga Nie, hahaha๐Ÿ˜€ Bener tuh, hal sepele kan biasanya dicuekin ya, tapi ini ternyata berpotensi jadi masalah besar loh, hmmm
