#914 – Bikeless

ENGLISH

As you might recall, I had my bike repaired last week and the repairman said it should be done by Saturday. As it was getting closer to Saturday, I was kinda excited that I would finally be able to bike again! Then, on Friday afternoon, the repairman called me and he delivered bad news. As he inspected my bike further, he found more problems in it. I don’t recall what the problems were though, but they were really bad that repairing it would cost more than freaking 100 euro! This implied that repairing my bike was not worth it and it would be wiser for me to buy a new (second-hand) bike (you know, the price of new “new” bike here is like crazily crazy).

On Saturday afternoon, I walked to the repairshop (which according to Google Map was like 2.5 kilometer away from where I lived by foot). Plus, it was such a hot sunny day with day temperature was around 27 centigrade or so! So hot!! Anyway, then the repairman told me the problems (again). Since they also sold second-hand bike, I asked them if they had any stock at that time. Indeed, they did. I looked at some of the bikes and I saw one which I kinda liked. It was around the same size of my old bike and it looked nice. I asked for the price, and it was freaking 150 euro! Wew, of course I tried to bargain the price but in my mind I knew I would not buy it anyway because my upper limit was around 75 euro or so. I managed to bargain the price down to 125 euro, but still, it was a bit too expensive for me. I know, the bike was really nice and it was also equipped with an attached-lock (my old bike did not have this feature). However, I already have my own chain-lock so that extra feature was not that necessary for me.

Beside, I was no fool, before leaving my home that day, I already conducted a small online survey on my own about the current available second-hand bike available around Delft. On the way to this repairshop, I also stopped by at two bike shops (even though the bikes the sold were also still too expensive for me). But at least I knew that I still had other options and there was no need to hurry in buying a new bike. So, I just took my old bike and walked back home. *What? “Walked” back home? Are you serious? Didn’t you already get your own old bike back by now?* Yes, I “walked” back home bringing my bike because the rear tire of my bike was completely deflated and so it was practically unrideable.

Back home, I then called the shop where I bought my old bike to ask whether or not they opened that day (it was Saturday and in the middle of long weekend, enough for a reason for them to close. I just did not want to walk that far to their place under the blazing sun just to find out that they closed :D). I saw in their website that they had two available bikes in their store with affordable price. They did open (good!) and then fortunately somehow some words slipped out from my mouth about my intention to look for a bike. The guy in the phone said that the bikes had been sold out (dammit!) and new ones would be ready within five weeks or so. This was because their bikeman was on vacation for the whole month. Arrgghh!! Lucky I did call first. Had I not done that, I would have endured walking far to the shop under the blazing sun, the shop opened but there was no bike, whatta… .

So, what do I do? Well, 125 euro is still too much for me so I am not chasing that one nice bike. And so I guess I have no other option than keep looking for a new second-hand bike. And if within five weeks I still have no luck, I will check that shop and see what they will have by then. Hopefully they will have bikes with affordable price!

The conclusion is: I am practically bikeless now!

My Old Bike (when it was still new)

BAHASA INDONESIA

*Apaa?? “Berjalan” pulang? Nggak salah? Bukannya uda dapat sepeda lamanya lagi ya?* Ya, aku “berjalan” pulang sambil menuntun sepedaku soalnya ban belakang sepedaku kempes, jadi ya memang nggak bisa dinaikin lagi. Duh…
