#904 – Best Day Ever

ENGLISH

Have you ever had a day you really love that you want it to NEVER end?? Well, I just had one: yesterday. I really loved yesterday that for the first time ever since I stepped my feet in Europe, I felt kinda “sad” that I had to go back home to my studio apartment.

It all started about two or three weeks ago where I got an invitation email for an excursion to Maeslantkering this May. Maeslantkering is part of one of the most impressive structure human has ever built and I happened to watch a documentary of the construction of it years back, plus the fact that I kinda needed a refreshment, I accepted the invitation. Further, I learnt that it would be a FREE excursion! This even pumped my excitement!๐Ÿ˜€ Who does not like free stuffs, rite??๐Ÿ™‚ Then, last Tuesday, we got an email about the excursion schedule. The schedule read like this:
– Tour in Maeslantkering;
– Spido Tour : cruise through the port of Rotterdam;
– Dinner in Euromast.
I googled Spido and learnt that the cruise would indeed be a cruise in a very very nice (and expensive slash fancy looking) big yacht!! I already visited Euromast before and I knew that the restaurant in Euromast was one of those fancy, expensive, and luxurious restaurants (the restaurant was located in the observation deck of the tower, about 96 meter above the ground)! When I learnt this, I could not believe it! I mean, I could join this excursion and get all of these things for free?? Oh, My, Gawd!!!! I felt blessed for saying yes to the invitation in the first place๐Ÿ™‚

So, finally, the D-Day came. I found out that we would drive the whole day using two of my professors’ cars. Anyway, after some 40 minutes, we finally arrived at the Maeslantkering. It was indeed a very impressive structure. How European really take the disaster threat seriously is really impressive! The tour itself kinda reminded me of the other excursion I had last November to Neeltje Jans. Well, indeed, Maeslantkering and the dam in Neeltje Jans were all part of the Delta Worksย system though, no wonder the tour was kinda similar also.

After the tour, we went to Rotterdam. On the way, we had to make a quick stop in the gas station. This gave me the opportunity to learn that gas price in the Netherlands was very very expensive! For 1 liter of gas, it was around 1.8 euro (around Rp 21,600.-) and for 1 liter of diesel, it was around 1.38 euro (around Rp 16,500.-)! Wow!!

Anyway, so we finally arrived at Erasmusbrug, the departure point of our cruise. When I saw the yacht we were going to board in, I was so excited! It was a very nice (and expensive slash fancy looking) big yacht named Abel Tasman! To make things better, the yacht was designed to accomodate like 300 people, I guess, but in this trip, there would only be about 20 people on board (plus staffs). This meant that it would feel like that we owned the ship, and it was like a private cruise for us!๐Ÿ˜€ Finally, the 75-minute cruise started. During the cruise, we also got a drink for free, and I chose to get a beer๐Ÿ˜€. It was a very fun cruise as we sailed through the Nieuwe Maas and the Port of Rotterdam (the third busiest port in the world, after Shanghai and Singapore), seeing the city from a different perspective. But the wind was kinda crazy though, it blew quite hardly๐Ÿ™‚

Then, dinner time. It was my second visit to the Euromast, but this time, I entered the restaurant and actually sat to have dinner there. After picking Carpaccio van Rundvlees as my appetizer, Gebraden Runderlende as my main course, Bounty met Moijto Sorbet as my dessert, and red wine as my drink, I just enjoyed the atmosphere. Well, it had been a while since the last time I felt this that kind of atmosphere, you know. It was the atmosphere of having meal in a fancy and high-class restaurant, with all those napkins and many forks and knives on the table๐Ÿ™‚ Plus, the fact that we were sitting 96 meter above the ground (and I got the perfect seat, just next to the glass window) added more “awesomeness” to it. Ah, I have been a bit too “used to” with the student life here I guess, a bit of refreshment with this kind of different lifestyle is always very nice to have. The meal was also amazing. Between appetizer and main course, we went on the spinning observation room to enjoy the short ride of getting further 85 meter from the ground. The dessert was also very delicious. Bounty met Moijto Sorbet was a dessert with two things on it: the chocolate cake and ice cream like stuff. The ice cream stuff was very delicious, as it was a very very soft ice (thus, it was not like ice cream in general) with a mint/basil flavor. It was so awesome! My friends and I also had a very nice talk during dinner, and we also did enjoy the incredible sunset scenery from above there.

We loved that day. It was a different kind of day, you know, the day that does not come very often. It was very different with another refreshment days that I normally have, like travelling day, relaxing and lazy day, or other days. I mean, it was very nice to have this kind of day in the middle of our crazy days in TU Delft. We so loved that day that we did not want to leave Euromast๐Ÿ˜€. But of course, anything has to come to an end, and so did yesterday. At almost 10 PM we went back home to Delft, to get back and continue to our current normal life as students…๐Ÿ™‚

BAHASA INDONESIA

๐Ÿ™‚ Kemudian, Selasa lalu, kami mendapat email mengenai jadwal hari-H ekskursi. Jadwalnya seperti ini:
– Tur di Maeslantkering;
Spido Tour : cruise through the port of Rotterdam;
– Makan malam in Euromast.
ย Oh, My, Gawd!!!! Beneran deh aku merasa beruntung menerima undangannya๐Ÿ™‚

Tapi anginnya agak gila juga, kenceng banget๐Ÿ™‚

Kemudian, waktu makan malam tiba.
