#1215 – This Week in One Post

Work Stuff

My work this week revolved around the outcome of the meeting I had the week before. And it was quite a lof of things to do given the amount of time to complete all of them. But the good news is, now, that I have finished everything; even the report and the slides for the presentation I plan to give during the next meeting, which is next Friday. Yay!

Beef

Here is a super random thing this week. Because the price of beef has been on discount these past two weeks (well, riblappen actually; and I can’t seem to find the English word for it, but it is one kind of beef), I have cooked quite more beef than I normally do these past two weeks; which is fine and I am not complaining about, obviously .

The End of A Domination

The third Masters 1000 tournament of the ATP World Tour, Monte Carlo Masters, takes place this week. Rafael Nadal, the King of Clay, has dominated this prestigious tournament. Coming into this year’s tournament, he is the eight-time defending champion (so he has won this tournament eight times in a row, starting from 2005 and then won it every year until 2012) with a 46 match match winning streak.

He advanced to this year’s final as well, again. The final was a rematch of last year’s final where he would face the world no.1, Novak Djokovic. Rafa was the heavy favorite to win the title, given his history and despite Novak’s world no.1 status. However, Novak lived up to his status and played overall amazing tennis to win the match 6–2, 7–6(1); thus, ending Rafa’s eight tournaments winning streak at the beautiful tournament (Seriously, the location of the tennis complex is so stunningly gorgeous! I have been to Monaco, even though not during the tournament, so I can testify to that! ).

This will certainly make this year’s French Open much more intriguing

Urusan Kerjaan

Kerjaanku minggu ini berkutat di sekitar hasil dari meeting seminggu sebelumnya. Dan beneran ada banyak banget yang mesti dikerjain loh, memperhitungkan waktu yang ada untuk menyelesaikan kesemuanya. Tapi berita baiknya adalah, sekarang, semuanya sudah aku selesaikan; bahkan laporan dan slide buat presentasi yang rencananya akan aku lakukan di meeting selanjutnya, yang mana Jumat besok ini, sudah beres. Yes! A

Daging sapi

Inilah satu hal random banget yang ingin aku tulis. Karena harga daging sapi lagi didiskon lumayan juga dua minggu belakangan ini (hmm, daging yang riblappen maksudnya; dan nggak tahu deh bahasa Indonesianya (atau, bahkan, Inggris-nya) apaan, tapi yang jelas ini salah satu jenis daging sapi gitu), akhir-akhir ini aku memasak daging sapi agak lebih sering daripada biasanya; yang mana nggak masalah sih dan aku bukannya komplain ya, tentu saja .

Akhir dari Sebuah Dominasi

Turnamen Masters 1000 ketiga dari ATP World Tour, Monte Carlo Masters, berlangsung minggu ini. Rafael Nadal,si Raja Tanah Liat, mendominasi turnamen bergengsi ini. Masuk ke turnamen tahun ini, ia adalah juara bertahan delapan kali (jadi dia sudah memenangi turnamen ini delapan kali berturutan, dimulai dengan memenanginya tahun 2005 dan kemudian setiap tahun sampai tahun 2012) dengan rentetan kemenangan beruntun di 46 pertandingan.

Ia lolos ke final tahun ini, lagi. Finalnya adalah ulangan final tahun lalu dimana ia akan menghadapi pemain peringkat 1 dunia, Novak Djokovic. Rafa sangat diunggulkan untuk memenangi titel ini lagi, karena mempertimbangkan sejarahnya dan walaupun Novak Djokovic berperingkat 1 dunia. Namun, Novak bermain seperti layaknya peringkatnya dan tampil dengan memainkan tenis yang amat brilian untuk akhirnya memenangi babak final dengan skor 6–2, 7–6(1); yang artinya, berakhirlah kemenangan Rafa secara beruntun selama delapan kali di turnamen yang amat indah ini (Eh, beneran loh, lokasi kompleks tenis turnamen ini tuh sangatlah indah sekali! Aku sudah pernah ke Monako, walaupun bukan di waktu turnamennya berlangsung sih, sehingga bisa bersaksi tentang pernyataan ini! ).

#1214 – Windy Thursday

It was sunny today, really. At around 15ºC, the temperature was nice as well, my favorite. So it was all nice and perfect?? Well, not really.

If you remember this post of mine about one and a half year ago, today was pretty much like the video I posted back then. The wind was so strong the entire day!! At one point, its speed was around like 54 kmh!! It was so strong that when I was about to leave my office this afternoon, there was an announcement in the building that it was prohibited to (well, maybe not ‘prohibited’, but at least it was ‘strongly advised not to’) ride a bike nearby the building because it was too dangerous due to the wind!! Wow!! This was the first time I heard this kind of announcement since I moved to the Netherlands around two and a half years ago!

For you who bike regularly, I am sure you can imagine this situation as it is even harder, literally, to bike when it is so windy than to walk . Well, unless we bike in the same direction as the wind though as we can just literally sit on our bike and the wind pushes us forward, lol . Seriously, it is kinda fun, I have experienced it a couple of times at least , even though the opposite situation is not fun at all.

I had a plan to play tennis this afternoon after work but obviously I had to cancel it because of this wind, hahaha .

It was too dangerous to bike

Hari ini cuaca cerah loh, beneran. Dengan suhu sekitar 15ºC, temperaturnya enak juga, kesukaanku deh. Jadi, apakah semuanya asyik dan sempurna?? Ya, nggak juga sih.

Kalau pada ingat posting-ku yang ini sekitar satu setengah tahun yang lalu, hari ini kondisinya kira-kira mirip seperti di video yang aku sertakan disana. Anginnya kencang sekali sepanjang hari!! Bahkan di satu waktu, kecepatannya mencapai sekitar 54 km/jam loh!! Saking kencangnya, ketika aku mau pulang dari kantor sore tadi, ada pengumuman di gedungku bahwa dilarang (ya mungkin nggak ‘dilarang’ juga kali, tapi setidaknya ‘sangat dianjurkan untuk tidak’) bersepeda di sekitar gedung karena sangat berbahaya akibat kencangnya angin!! Wow!! Ini adalah pertama kalinya aku mendengar pengumuman semacam ini semenjak pindah ke Belanda sekitar dua setengah tahun yang lalu!

Yang sering bersepeda pasti bisa membayangkan situasi ini deh karena memang jauh lebih susah dan berat, dalam artian sebenarnya, untuk bersepeda ketika cuaca berangin daripada berjalan kaki loh . Ya, kecuali kalau kita bersepeda di arah yang sama dengan anginnya ya sehingga kita bisa, dalam artian sebenarnya, duduk aja di sepeda nggak ngapa-ngapain sementara anginnya mendorong kita dari belakang, huahaha . Beneran loh, asyik rasanya, aku sudah pernah mengalaminya beberapa kali soalnya , walaupun kalau situasinya dibalik jadi sangat menyebalkan sih.

Sore tadi aku ada rencana main tenis setelah kerja tapi tentu saja aku harus batalkan karena angin ini, hahaha .

#1180 – Life This Week

Work

My life this week wasn’t as intense as last week where I had to do an exam and so I had to put myself in a lockdown mode a little bit. There was no big meeting anywhere so I could just stay in my office working and dedicated most of my time doing literature reading on a PhD dissertation. Beside that, I also finished the paperworks I needed to do, especially regarding my DMA profile (Doctoral Monitoring Application). So DMA is an online system for a TU Delft PhD Candidate (and all parties involved, like supervisors, promotors, etc) where all updates regarding the PhD project process should be uploaded so the progress can be monitored.  There was an error previously so my DMA profile was locked that I could not update mine; but earlier this week the problem was resolved.

Tennis Lesson

Finally, after all the snow was really gone, I could go to a tennis lesson on Wednesday. It was the last tennis lesson this quarter though and a new period will start in a couple of weeks. Even so, it was still not a good condition to play because it was so windy!! The wind was so strong that it interfered with the play a lot. A LOT. It made me misjudge some of the balls coming at me, and my ball toss (for my serve) was highly affected. In that sense it was kinda frustrating even though overall it was still fun because finally I could play tennis again! Bye snow, for now! Hahaha

Royal Family

Speaking of this week, earlier this week there was a big announcement from the Dutch Royal Family. So, Queen Beatrix decided to abdicate her royal title and hand her crown to Crown Prince Willem-Alexander on April 30th this year. Yes, during the Koninginnedag, where it will officially be exactly 33 years of reign from Queen Beatrix. Well, honestly, this was the first time I knew that a King or Queen could “retire”, hahaha.

Anyway, a random thought now. For the last century, the head of the Kingdom of the Netherlands have been “queens”. And so the word is “Koninginnedag” (Queen’s Day). And because Queen Beatrix’s successor will be a King, would the name of the day be changed to “Koningsdag” (King’s Day) as well? Even so, I still think it is going to take some time because it has been more than a century people are more accustomed with the name “Koninginnedag”. Hmmm…

Kerjaan

Kehidupanku minggu ini nggak se-intens minggu lalu dimana aku harus mengikuti satu ujian sehingga aku harus masuk dalam mode mengunci diri. Nggak ada meeting penting dimana-mana jadinya aku bisa tinggal di kantorku lebih lama dan menggunakan sebagian besar waktuku membaca literatur berupa sebuah disertasi PhD. Di samping itu, aku juga menyelesaikan beberapa urusan birokrasi yang berkaitan dengan profil DMA-ku (Doctoral Monitoring Application/Aplikasi Pengawasan (Program) Doktoral). Jadi, DMA adalah sistem online bagi kandidat PhD-nya TU Delft (dan semua yang terlibat, seperti para pembimbing, promotor, dll) dimana semua update mengenai proyek PhD diunggah kesana sehingga keberlangsungan dan kemajuan proyeknya bisa dimonitor. Ada kesalahan gitu sebelumnya sehingga profil DMA-ku dikunci sehingga aku nggak bisa meng-update profilku itu. Kesalahannya telah dibereskan awal minggu ini.

Les Tenis

Akhirnya, setelah semua saljunya hilang, aku bisa mengikuti les tenis di hari Rabu. Yah, ini adalah les tenis terakhir kuarter ini sih dan periode yang baru akan dimulai dua minggu lagi. Walaupun begitu, kemarin Rabu ini masih bukanlah kondisi yang baik untuk bermain tenis deh karena berangin banget. Anginnya kencang sekali sampai-sampai permainannya jadi terganggu loh. BANGET. Aku jadi salah membaca beberapa bola yang datang ke arahku beberapa kali, dan toss bolaku (untuk serve) juga sangat terpengaruh. Ya dari segi itunya memang menyebalkan sih ya tapi secara keseluruhan aku masih enjoy-enjoy aja sih soalnya akhirnya bisa main tenis lagi! Bye bye salju, setidaknya untuk sekarang! Hahaha

Keluarga Kerajaan

Ngomongin minggu ini, awal minggu ini ada pengumuman besar dari Keluarga Kerajaan Belanda. Jadi, Ratu Beatrix memutuskan untuk melepaskan jabatannya dan meneruskan mahkotanya ke Putra Mahkota Willem-Alexander tanggal 30 April tahun ini. Ya, tepat di waktu Koninginnedag, dimana nanti adalah tepat 33 tahun Ratu Beatrix berkuasa. Btw, jujur nih, aku baru tahu lho bahwa yang namanya Raja atau Ratu gitu bisa “pensiun” juga, hahaha.

Anyway, pikiran yang sungguh random nih. Selama sekitar satu abad belakangan ini, kan kepala Kerajaan Belanda itu selalu “ratu” tuh. Makanya namanya adalah “Koninginnedag” (Hari Ratu). Nah, karena penerusnya Ratu Beatrix adalah seorang Raja, berarti kemungkinan nama harinya diganti menjadi “Koningsdag” (Hari Raja) dong? Walaupun begitu, kayaknya sih bakal membutuhkan waktu ya sampai semua terbiasa karena satu abad belakangan kan orang-orang sudah terbiasa dengan nama “Koninginnedag”. Hmmm…

#1160 – Fortune Cookies and Windy Day

Actually, aside from the chocolate present I got from Sinterklaas this week, I got another present. When I arrived at my office on Friday morning, I found a tennis-balls-can-sized cylinder can wrapped with a picture of TU Delft with a “Welcome” writing at the bottom. Well, I suppose it was an office-restructurization gift, as most of us had our offices moved on Monday and Tuesday.

Anyway, judging from the appearance, I thought this gift was another chocolate. However, I was wrong, big time. It turned out to be: fortune cookies!!! Huahahaha . Well, I have never had a fortune cookie before so it was kinda exciting. I ate my first fortune cookie yesterday, and here was the message that I got:

It was in Dutch and it meant “A new start“, hmmmm.

Speaking of weekend, well, I didn’t do so much this weekend. Weather-wise, the temperature rose (a little bit) as it did not snow at all during the whole weekend. However, it came with a price as well, where it became so windy! And by windy, I mean it was Dutch windy; yes, with the strong wind!! I planned to go to IKEA this afternoon but cancelled it last minute because of the wind (and also the rain).

Sebenarnya, selain hadiah coklat yang aku dapatkan dari Sinterklaas minggu ini, aku mendapatkan hadiah lain juga loh. Ketika aku tiba di kantorku Jumat pagi, aku menemukan sebuah kaleng silinder seukuran kaleng bola tenis yang terbungkus gambarnya TU Delft dengan tulisan “Welcome” di bawahnya. Ya, aku duga sih ini bingkisan dari restrukturisasi kantor ya, dimana sebagian besar dari kami kan harus pindahan kantor di hari Senin dan Selasa.

Anyway, menilai dari penampakannya, awalnya aku kira bingkisan ini berupa coklat lagi gitu deh. Namun, dugaanku salah loh, salah banget malahan. Ternyata bingkisannya adalah: kue keberuntungan (fortune cookies)!!! Huahahaha . Ya, kan aku belum pernah mencoba fortune cookie gitu ya sebelumnya, jadi ini menarik juga. Aku memakan fortune cookie pertamaku kemarin, dan inilah pesan yang kudapat:

Dalam bahasa Belanda gitu pesannya, yang mana artinya adalah “Sebuah permulaan baru“, hmmmm.

Ngomongin tentang akhir pekan, yah, nggak banyak yang kulakukan akhir pekan ini. Dari segi cuaca, suhu udaranya naik loh (sedikit) sehingga salju tidak lagi turun sepanjang akhir pekan. Namun, ada harga yang harus dibayar dimana cuacanya menjadi berangin banget! Dan dengan berangin, maksudku ya berangin ala Belanda; ya, dengan angin yang kencang banget gitu!! Siang tadi sebenarnya aku berencana pergi ke IKEA tetapi batal karena anginnya kencang banget (dan juga hujan).

#1036 – This Week

Outdoor tennis at 8 PM in the winter

Out of the three tennis courses I have each week now, one of them is held on one of the outdoor courts (read: courts outside of the ballooned courts). And it is held at 8 PM every Wednesday. Last week, the class was cancelled due to snow. Earlier this week, all snow was gone from Delft which meant that we had class for this week. And this was very exciting.

I went to the class last Wednesday. At that time, the weather was “perfect” *sarcastic mode on* : it was super windy and chilly (probably around 2°C). During the course, I had to wear three layers of clothes (my sport tee, my long-sleeved sport top, and my sport jacket (usually I don’t need to wear my jacket if I play inside the balloon))!! Yeah, it was that chilly. However, one that frustrated me more was the wind. It was so strong that it disturbed the trajectory of the balls! Yeah, no wonder professional players do not like to play in the wind, hahaha .

Anyway, but it was a really nice class. The trainer was very funny, talkative, and discipline. And he will make up for one class that we missed last week with an extra one in the end of the period. Nice!

Long-Sleeve Sport Top

That class made me think that I needed to buy one more long-sleeve sport t-shirt. I only had one and so I definitely needed more as my frequency of wearing it was higher this quarter. So, I went to Den Haag today to do t-shirt hunting, huahaha (I could actually do it online; but I do not really like shopping for clothes online as I prefer to try them first before actually buying them; to see if the models are good on me and if the sizes fit me). Anyway, after comparing some products at two stores, I decided to get one. It is Nike’s and the color is red, hahaha.

Delft Zuid

My trip to Den Haag today made me realize that actually I should get off at Delft Zuid Station instead of Delft station every time I am catching a train back to Delft and when I plan to go back to my apartment right away. It is because Delft Zuid is a bit closer to my apartment than Delft station, hahaha . All this time, I always got off at Delft Station as it was the bigger station. Damn, seriously Zilko? After more than 18 months you just realized this now? Damn! However, trains that stop at Delft Zuid are slower trains (sprinter and stoptrein), so there are not that many options (compared to Delft station), hmmm. Ah, maybe sometime in the future I will write a bit more about trains in the Netherlands, haha

Pancake

This Bebe’s post a few weeks ago made me feel that I wanted to make pancake! So last week I decided to buy pannenkoeken flour (pancake flour) in the supermarket. I did not have the urge to cook one (mostly because I was always full when I was at home; as I was at home usually around brunch time and after dinner time, huahaha ) until today. After coming back from Den Haag at around 4.30 PM, somehow I felt soo hungry. And it was a perfect timing to (finally) cook this pancake. I was, of course, not that ambitious to make a fancy one. I just aimed to make a plain one (with just eggs and milk) and ate it with Nutella (I tried my friend’s pancake with Nutella during my birthday’s celebration and it was awesome! ).

It turned out fine. It still tasted a little bit “weird” though in my opinion and I definitely missed something, hmmm. But overall it was fine.

Tenis Outdoor jam 8 malam di musim dingin

Satu dari tiga les tenis yang kuambil tiap minggu sekarang diadakan di lapangan outdoor (baca: lapangan di luar balon). Dan kelas ini diadakannya jam 8 malam setiap hari Rabu. Minggu lalu, kelasnya dibatalkan karena salju. Awal minggu ini, salju enyah dari Delft yang mana artinya kelasnya ada minggu ini. Dan tentu saja ini mengasyikkan buatku.

Aku pergi ke kelasnya Rabu kemarin. Waktu itu, cuacanya “sempurna” loh *sarkastik ya ini maksudnya*: berangin kencang dan dingin gitu deh (mungkin sekitar 2°C). Selama kelas berlangsung, aku harus memakai tiga lapis baju gitu deh (kaus olahragaku, atasan olahraga lengan panjang, dan jaket olahraga (biasanya kan aku nggak perlu pakai jaket gitu kalau bermain di dalam balon)!! Ya, memang sedingin itu. Namun, yang lebih menyebalkan bagiku adalah anginnya! Anginnya kencang banget sampai-sampai lintasan pergerakan bola yang dimainkan terpengaruh dong! Ya, nggak heran deh pemain profesional pun nggak suka kalau harus bermain di cuaca yang berangin, hahaha .

Anyway, tapi kelas yang satu ini asyik sih. Pelatihnya juga lucu, cerewet (baca: hobi bercerita), dan disiplin. Dan ia juga akan menggantikan satu kelas yang bolong minggu lalu nanti di akhir periode. Bagus deh!

Atasan Olahraga Lengan Panjang

Satu kelas itu membuatku berpikir bahwa mungkin aku perlu deh beli satu lagi kaus olahraga lengan panjang. Selama ini aku hanya punya satu saja, sementara aku membutuhkan lebih kan ya soalnya frekuensiku memakainya juga menjadi makin sering kuarter ini. Jadi, aku pergi ke Den Haag deh tadi buat mencari kaus ini, huahaha (aku bisa saja sih mencarinya online gitu. Namun, aku nggak suka belanja pakaian online karena aku lebih suka untuk mencobanya dulu sebelum membeli; kan perlu dilihat apakah modelnya cocok dan ukurannya pas dipakai kan). Anyway, setelah membandingkan beberapa produk di dua toko, akhirnya aku membeli satu deh. Merknya adalah Nike dan warnanya merah, hahaha

Delft Zuid

Perjalananku ke Den Haag tadi membuatku menyadari bahwa seharusnya tuh aku kalau turun di Stasiun Delft Zuid dan bukannya di Stasiun Delft setiap kali aku naik kereta ke Delft dan jika berencana langsung balik ke apartemen. Ini karena Delft Zuid itu sedikit lebih dekat ke apartemenku gitu deh daripada stasiun Delft, hahaha . Selama ini, aku kan turunnya di stasiun Delft gitu ya karena stasiun ini kan lebih besar. Payah ah, masa baru sadarnya setelah lebih dari 18 bulan tinggal disini sih? Grrr! Eh, tapi kereta yang berhenti di Delft Zuid itu cuma kereta-kereta yang pelan aja sih (sprinter dan stoptrein), jadi pilihannya nggak terlalu banyak (jika dibandingkan dengan stasiun Delft), hmmm. Ah, kapan-kapan mungkin aku akan menulis tentang kereta api di Belanda deh, haha

Pancake

Postingnya Bebe yang ini beberapa minggu yang lalu membuatku ingin membuat pancake! Jadilah minggu lalu aku membeli tepung pannenkoeken (tepung buat pancake) di supermarket. Hanya saja, aku kemudian malah tidak merasakan dorongan untuk membikinnya (karena aku selalu merasa kenyang gitu kalau di rumah; soalnya aku di rumahnya kan ya sekitar waktunya makan pagi dan setelah waktu makan malam gitu deh, huahaha ), sampai sore tadi. Setelah balik dari Den Haag sekitar jam 4.30 sore, entah kenapa aku merasa lapar. Ah, waktu yang tepat deh untuk (akhirnya) memasak pancake ini. Aku nggak seambisius itu ya dengan menargetkan untuk memasak pancake yang aneh-aneh gitu. Aku cuma ingin membuat pancake biasa polos (dengan telur dan susu saja) dan memakannya dengan Nutella (aku mencoba pancake-nya temanku dengan Nutella di perayaan ulang tahunku dan enak banget loh! ).

Jadinya oke sih. Walau menurutku rasanya masih agak sedikit “aneh” gitu dan sepertinya aku melewatkan sesuatu deh, hmm. Tapi secara keseluruhan sih masih oke lah.

#1015 – The Story This Week

Okay, you already know that I was so excited to start all my activities in the year 2012 earlier this week. So, how did they go? Well, here are a few updates of my life this week:

I found IT!

Last Wednesday, my supervisor and I had a guess on what might cause the weird outcome in the simulation that I am performing. Later on that day and the next day, after performing several investigations, I found out that the suspect was not the culprit. Ah, it seemed that I hit another dead end .

But then, I had an idea to run another diagnose but this time, I decided to change the focus. All this time I was focusing on the code itself, hoping to find a bug in it. But since after gazillion of thorough inspections “the bug” was still not identified yet, it occurred to me that maybe the cause was something else: something from outside of the code itself. Frankly, I sidelined this possibility at first since I was kinda sure the problem should lay within the code and there was no indication that something outside of the code was wrong. But after all the failures in the investigation to the code, I finally gave up and was open to this possibility .

And guess what? This diagnose gave me something that I wanted to see! An inconsistency!! This indicated that indeed the problem lied outside of the code. Further, this inconsistency led me to pinpoint that one input (well, not really an “input” in technical sense actually but for the sake of simplicity, let us call it “input”, huahahaha ) was indeed the f*cking cause of the weird outcome!  I “fixed” this input and test the code, and it worked flawlessly! Ah, I am so relieved that I finally found this stupid cause!! Now I can work on my simulation!! And I am super glad that I was not too stubborn to stick with code-checking trying to find “the bug”, as there was NO bug in the first place!! Ah, I am so happy!

Anyway, this whole experience led me into thinking that indeed finding the cause of weird outcome from a code is like treasure hunting! It is quite “painful” when you keep hitting dead-ends but it makes you even more curious at the same time. And when you finally find it, you will feel on top of the world and super relieved, and most importantly: proud of yourself! And of course you can “use” and “enjoy” the treasure that you find. In my case, I get the affirmation that this code is bug free and works well, and so I can do my simulation with no worry.

Strange Weather

Anyway, let us talk weather. This past week, the weather has been strange here in the Netherlands. I think there has been a storm hitting Europe. I don’t know, I do not check the latest weather news so I am just making a guess here. The wind has been blowing really hard (with speed around 45 – 60 km/hour) and it is not nice to bike in this wind, I can assure you that. Btw, how fast is 60 km/hr wind? Well, let me put it this way. Imagine you are riding a car and it moves with the speed of 60 km/hr. Also imagine that you put your head out of the car (I know this is very not safe, so just imagine it, do not ever try it! If you do, it is not my responsibility, I have warned you!!); then the sensation you feel in your head while doing that is just like the sensation you get when being hit by 60 km/hr wind! See??

But I am not complaining about the wind actually. As I shared this time, strong wind is part of life here in the Netherlands. So it was not something “new”. However, there is other thing that is kind of “abnormal” that has been happening lately: hard rain! Normally, when it rains here in Holland, it does not last that long. Maybe just for like 30 minutes then it is done, even sometimes the sun is back shining after that, hahaha . But lately, the rain has been lasting quite longer: for more than an hour I think.  And it was not just drizzle or light shower, it was more like pouring! Well, in Indonesia, this is not a strange phenomenon as it always happens pretty much in every rainy season. But here in Holland, it is something unusual. And having lived here for more than a year now, I am quite surprised, hahaha. I mean, not surprised with the pouring rain but I am surprised that it also happens here, where normally it doesn’t.

p.s: and you know, I am not a fan of rain. 

Injuries

Okay, let us talk tennis now!! So, they who are not interested in tennis can just skip this part .

So, as I already wrote in the previous post, Serena Williams just sustained an injury this week. However, as the week progressed, it turned out that she was not the only one! Roger Federer and Kim Clijsters also caught injuries! Federer got a back injury during his second round match in Doha this week, while Kim Clijsters got a hip injury in her semifinals match in Brisbane just earlier today. There have also been several other names who are plagued with injuries this week only, making the list even longer! The Australian Open is going to start in just around ten days from now. This might be an indication that it will turn out to be quite a more open tournament with a bit of more potential surprises. But we will see though

Oke, sudah pada tahu dong kalau aku bersemangat sekali untuk memulai aktivitasku di tahun 2012 awal minggu ini. Nah, bagaimanakah aktivitas-aktivitas itu berjalan? Yah, berikut sedikit update minggu ini:

KETEMU!

Rabu lalu, aku dan pembimbingku memiliki dugaan akan penyebab munculnya hasil yang aneh di simulasi yang sedang aku jalankan. Nah, di hari itu dan sehari setelahnya, setelah melakukan beberapa investigasi, ternyata si tersangka ini bukan pelakunya. Ah, rasanya kayak menemui jalan buntu lagi gitu .

Tapi kemudian, aku jadi mendapatkan ide baru untuk melakukan diagnosa lagi, tapi kali ini aku memutuskan untuk mengubah fokusnya. Selama ini aku fokus di kodenya itu sendiri, berharap aku segera menemukan bug-nya. Namun, karena setelah jutaan kali *lebay* inspeksi “si bug” itu nggak ketemu-ketemu juga, jadilah aku berpikir mungkin penyebabnya adalah hal lain: sesuatu hal di luar kodenya itu sendiri. Jujur nih, awalnya aku mengesampingkan kemungkinan ini karena aku cukup yakin masalahnya ada di badan kodenya itu sendiri dan nggak ada indikasi juga kok kalau sesuatu di luar kode itu ada yang salah. Tapi setelah investigasi-investigasi yang hasilnya negatif itu muncul turus, ya udah aku menyerah juga dan mulai membuka pikiranku akan kemungkinan ini .

Dan bagaimana hasilnya? Diagnosa ini memberikan hasil yang aku inginkan lho! Sebuah inkonsistensi!! Ini mengindikasikan bahwa memang masalahnya itu ada di luar kodenya. Lebih jauh lagi, inkonsistensi yang muncul ini membuatku bisa langsung menunjuk satu input (yah, secara teknis sebenarnya bukan “input” sih ya tapi biar gampang mendeskripsikannya, kita anggap “input” aja deh ya, huahahaha ) adalah penyebab hasil aneh yang muncul itu!  Aku “memperbaiki” input ini dan mengetes kodeya, dan kodenya bekerja dengan tanpa cela dong!! Ah, aku lega sekali nih akhirnya ketemu juga si pelaku ini!! Sekarang aku jadi bisa melakukan simulasiku deh!! Dan aku senang juga aku nggak sekeras-kepala itu buat tetap kekeuh memeriksa kodenya berharap nemu “si bug”, soalnya kan sebenarnya memang NGGAK ADA bug gitu disana!! Ah, bahagia nih saya!

Ngomong-ngomong, pengalaman ini membuatku berpikir bahwa sebenarnya pencarian penyebab hasil aneh kayak gini itu kayak perburuan harta karun ya! Agak “menyakitkan” juga ketika kita terus menemui jalan buntu tapi sekaligus juga membuat semakin penasaran gitu. Dan ketika akhirnya ketemu, bener deh berasa senang dan lega banget, serta satu lagi: bangga pada diri sendiri!  Dan tentu saja ya kita juga bisa “menggunakan” dan “menikmati” harta karun yang kita temukan itu. Dalam kasusku, aku mendapatkan konfirmasi bahwa kodeku bebas bug dan bekerja dengan baik, sehingga aku bisa menjalankan simulasi dengan tenang.

Cuaca Aneh

Anyway, mari membicarakan cuaca. Seminggu belakangan ini, cuacanya agak aneh gitu di Belanda. Kayaknya sih Eropa sedang diterpa badai kali yah. Aku nggak tahu sih soalnya aku nggak mengikuti berita terbaru tentang cuaca gitu, jadi ya aku nebak-nebak aja. Anginnya kencang sekali (kecepatannya sekitar 45 – 60 km/jam gitu deh) dan ini adalah situasi yang tidak ideal loh buat sepedaan, percaya deh. Btw, seberapa cepatkah angin 60 km/jam itu? Hmmm, gini deh. Bayangkan kalian sedang naik mobil dan mobilnya sedang bergerak dengan kecepatan 60 km/jam. Bayangkan pula ketika itu kalian sedang mengeluarkan kepala kalian dari mobil (ya ya, ini memang sangat tidak aman, jadi dibayangkan aja ya, jangan pernah dicoba loh!! Kalau pada nyoba, bukan tanggung-jawabku loh, kan sudah aku peringkatkan nih!!); nah, apa yang menerpa kepala kalian saat itu ya kurang lebih sama deh kayak ketika kita sedang diterpa angin dengan kecepatan 60 km/jam! Nah kan??

Eh, tapi sebenarnya aku nggak komplain tentang anginnya sih. Kan seperti yang pernah aku tulis waktu ini, angin kencang itu ya bagian kehidupan sehari-hari lah di Belanda ini. Jadi, ini bukan hal “baru” gitu. Nah, hal baru yang agak “nggak normal” yang baru-baru ini terjadi di Belanda itu adalah: hujan deras! Biasanya kan ya, disini kalau hujan itu berlangsungnya nggak lama deh. Paling cuma 30 menit aja dan setelah itu langsung beres, malah kadang matahari langsung bersinar dengan cerah, hahaha . Tapi akhir-akhir ini, hujannya berlangsung lebih lama: lebih dari sejam gitu deh.  Dan hujannya tuh bukan hujan gerimis atau rintik-rintik gitu loh, tapi memang hujan deras! Yah, di Indonesia sih fenomena kayak gini tuh biasa lah ya untuk terjadi setiap musim hujan. Tapi di Belanda ini, ini sesuatu yang nggak biasa nih. Dan karena sudah tinggal disini setahun lebih, aku kaget juga, hahaha. Maksudku, bukan kaget sama hujannya tapi kaget karena hujan kayak gini terjadi juga disini, yang biasanya nggak pernah terjadi.

p.s: dan tahu kan, aku bukanlah seorang penggemar hujan. 

Cedera

Oke, mari membahas tenis!! Bagi mereka yang nggak tertarik sama tenis, bisa deh melompati bagian ini .

Jadi, seperti yang aku tulis di posting lalu, Serena Williams mengalami cedera minggu ini. Nah, setelah minggu ini berjalan lebih lanjut, ternyata ia nggak sendirian lho! Roger Federer dan Kim Clijsters juga mengalami cedera! Federer mengalami cedera punggung di pertandingan babak keduanya di Doha minggu ini, sementara Kim Clijsters mengalami cedera paha di pertandingan semifinal di Brisbane tadi. Ada juga beberapa nama lain yang mengalami cedera minggu ini pula, sehingga daftar pemain yang cedera jadi semakin panjang deh! Australian Open bakal dimulai sekitar sepuluhan hari lagi dari sekarang. Ini mungkin adalah sebuah indikasi dimana turnamennya akan lebih terbuka dengan mungkin beberapa hasil yang mengejutkan. Tapi we will see aja lah ya

What is winter identical with? Well, out of all possible answers, one of the most general is probably “snow”, do you agree? Yes, snow. And as I have mentioned several times in this blog, I like snow: I like snowy day much better than rainy day. At least, when it snows (aside from the phenomenon where everything (outside) you see becomes more beautiful), we do not get wet when we are outdoor; a complete opposite from rain. However, as I believe many of you also know, we have to be extra careful when we are out there when it snows as the road becomes incredibly slippery (and thus, dangerous). Otherwise, one might end up with a broken bone. Last year, one friend of mine fell from a bike after her bike skidded because of the snow. What was next? Well, she broke her ankle and she had to wear cast and use a wheelchair and crutches for the next, at least, six weeks.

I still remember, last winter, the snow first fell in the Netherlands in late November. In the first weekend of December, I went to Amsterdam and it was snow storming there at that time! Later that afternoon, I went to Utrecht and then I found myself stuck in Utrecht Station because all train schedules were messed up by the snow!  Well, I guess this is one bad thing that (the presence of too much) snow brings though, hahaha Ah, but still, I like snow.

And of course, I am also waiting for the snow this winter. However, so far, there has been no luck. The temperature is still stable at around 0 – 8 centigrade. Quite cool, but definitely not cool enough for snow to form; and btw, this temperature is, in my opinion, quite warm for a winter day *I think I already get used to cold climate here*. So far, I still feel that there is no need for me to wear my winter suits. My suits are still hanging nicely in my closet, hehehe Normal jacket (plus some clothes obviously) are still enough for me to protect myself from the cold, hmmm.

However, lately, instead of snow, RAIN (and also super strong wind) falls quite frequently here in Holland.  To see how strong the wind here in the Netherlands, you can read this entry of mine. It kinda sucks because rain did not fall that often before this period. On top of that, based on the weather forecast, it turns out that we shall expect more rain to fall in the Netherlands, at least for the next 1 to 2 weeks, hmmm.

Ah, I just got an idea, I will write something about my first experience with snow. I am quite lazy to write it down here in this entry now, however, so I will leave it for later.

Musim dingin alias winter itu identik dengan apa?? Dari sekian banyak kemungkinan jawaban, salah satu yang mungkin paling umum adalah “salju” kali yah. Ya, salju. Dan seperti yang pernah kusinggung beberapa kali di blog ini, aku suka sama yang namanya salju. Dan aku juga lebih suka apabila suatu hari itu bersalju daripada hujan. Setidaknya, kalau bersalju (selain pemandangannya jadi indah gitu deh) kan kita nggak (langsung) basah gitu kalau beraktivitas di luar, beda banget sama hujan. Walau kalau bersalju kita jadi harus lebih berhati-hati sama jalanan yang jadi super licin (dan berbahaya) sih. Kalau nggak bisa patah tulang loh. Temanku tahun lalu ada yang naik sepeda setelah salju turun kemudian sepedanya selip dan ia terjatuh gitu. Akibatnya, pergelangan kakinya patah dan harus di-gips dan naik kursi roda dan memakai kruk selama minimal enam minggu gitu deh.

Aku ingat banget, musim dingin tahun lalu, salju pertama kali turun di Belanda di akhir bulan November. Di wiken pertama bulan Desember, aku pergi ke Amsterdam dan saat itu disana sedang badai salju! Sorenya, aku pergi ke Utrecht dan akhirnya malah terjebak di stasiun Utrecht karena jadwal kereta api jadi terganggu semua karena salju!  Inilah salah satu konsekuensi pahit ketika hari bersalju (lebat), hahaha . Ah, toh tapi aku masih suka sama yang namanya salju kok.

Nah, tentu saja dong, di musim dingin kali ini juga aku menunggu turunnya salju gitu deh. Tapi sejauh ini salju belum turun nih. Temperatur udara masih stabil berada di kisaran 0 – 8 derajat Celsius. Lumayan dingin sih, tapi masih belum cukup dingin supaya salju bisa turun; dan temperatur segini menurutku sih cukup hangat deh ya untuk ukuran musim dingin *sudah terbiasa dengan udara dingin sepertinya nih saya*. Sejauh ini aku merasa belum memerlukan untuk mengenakan jas musim dinginku loh. Jas-jasku masih tersimpan rapi di lemari, hehehe Jaket biasa (dan pakaian rangkap tentunya ya) sudah cukup untuk menghadang dinginnya udara saat ini, hmmm.

Nyebelinnya ya, bukannya salju yang turun, tapi akhir-akhir ini malah HUJAN (dan angin super kencang) dong yang sering turun di Delft.  Seberapa kencangnya angin di Belanda bisa dibaca di posting-ku yang ini. Padahal sebelum-sebelum ini juga hujan agak jarang turun gitu. Selain itu, menurut ramalan cuaca, selama setidaknya beberapa hari ke depan (1 sampai 2 minggu) juga sepertinya kita bisa bersiap-siap akan turunnya hujan deh di Belanda, hmmm.

Jadi dapat ide nih, kapan-kapan aku akan menulis tentang pengalaman pertamaku menghadapi yang namanya salju ah. Agak-agak malas dan nanggung deh ya kalau dijadiin satu sama posting ini, hehe.

Ah, salju, turun dong! (tapi jangan bikin masalah juga ya kalau turun, huahahaha *banyak maunya* )
