#1119 – Meeting and Sports Card

Work

As I said previously, I had a meeting today about the project underlying my PhD work. Well, I don’t think it is necessary to write the details about the meeting here, but the more important thing is that now I know some stuffs that I have to do for the time being and the following several months .

Because I am still at the very beginning stage of the project, it is important for me to familiarize myself with the field. I am a mathematician, so my knowledge about the field of the research (transportation) is currently in the state of very minimal (if avoiding the word ‘zero’, lol ). Okay, even though in reality my work in the future will deal more with the mathematical modelling and stuffs (there will be another PhD candidate in this research project, who obviously has transportation background and knowledge, who will work more on the real application to the field); some knowledge about the field (at least common knowledge) is of course crucial for me to possess as it will smooth my work in the future. So, I will take a couple of courses in the Master level in Civil Engineering about transportation this semester to achieve this goal .

And also, the project leader (read: my boss) suggested me to learn more Dutch as he thought it would be very beneficial for me. Okay, so I think I will also take a further Dutch course in the near future .

So far, I am really glad to get this opportunity. The people involved seem to be really nice. Hopefully it really will turn out to be nice experience for the next several years .

Sports Card

Anyway, the problem I had in the Sport Center was resolved yesterday and so I could finally renew my membership at the Sport Center. Yay! And as I said before, I also decided to buy gym membership this year, so in total I paid €198 for that. The reason I also bought the gym membership (which constituted to €97 of that €198 that I paid) was that because I would get this money refunded anyway, huahaha . You know, being healthy (by doing sport) is important and it shall translate to better progress on the work; therefore the university supports this and the membership fee can be refunded (under certain condition and rule, of course; which I am not in the mood to write here ) . But this refund is for their employees only, not students; students still have to pay themselves, though with student price of course . And this €198 is actually already the student price as PhD gets the privilege to pay with a student price.

Kerjaan

Seperti yang kubilang sebelumnya, aku ada meeting penting hari ini mengenai proyek yang melandasi pekerjaan PhD-ku ini. Yah, aku rasa tidaklah penting untuk menulis detail mengenai meeting-nya disini ya, yang penting adalah sekarang aku tahu apa yang harus kulakukan untuk saat ini dan beberapa bulan ke depan gitu .

Karena aku masih berada di bagian yang amat awal dari proyek ini, penting untukku untuk mengenali bidang ini. Aku kan orang matematika ya, jadi pengetahuanku mengenai bidang yang melandasi riset ini (transportasi) masih minimal gitu (kalau nggak mau dibilang ‘nol’, huahaha ). Oke, walaupun pada kenyataannya nantinya pekerjaanku akan lebih berkutat di pemodelan matematika dan kawan-kawannya (akan ada satu PhD lagi di proyek riset ini, yang memiliki latar belakang dan pengetahuan di bidang transportasi, yang akan bekerja lebih di bidang pengaplikasiannya di lapangan); tentu pengetahuan (setidaknya secara umum) akan bidang ini juga penting bagiku karena ini akan memudahkan pekerjaanku nantinya juga. Nah, jadilah selama satu semester ini aku akan mengambil dua kelas di level S2 di Jurusan Teknik Sipil gitu deh untuk mencapai tujuan ini .

Dan juga, ketua proyek ini (baca: bosku) menyarankan aku untuk belajar bahasa Belanda lebih jauh lagi karena menurutnya ini akan menguntungkanku. Oke deh, jadilah kayaknya aku akan mengambil kelas Belanda yang level selanjutnya deh dalam waktu dekat .

Sejauh ini, aku bersyukur deh mendapatkan kesempatan ini. Orang-orangnya yang terlibat juga nampaknya baik-baik gitu. Mudah-mudahan ini beneran akan menjadi sebuah pengalaman yang menyenangkan deh selama beberapa tahun ke depan .

Sports Card

Anyway, masalah yang ada di Sport Center akhirnya terpecahkan kemarin dan jadilah aku bisa memperbarui keanggotanku disana. Yay! Dan seperti yang kubilang sebelumnya, aku juga memutuskan untuk membeli keanggotaan gym (fitness) deh tahun ini, jadi totalnya aku membayar €198 gitu. Alasan aku juga membeli keanggotaan gym (yang mana bernilai €97 dari €198 yang kubayar itu) adalah karena toh nantinya uang ini di-refund juga, huahaha . Tahu dong, berkondisi sehat (dengan berolahraga) itu kan penting sekali dan ini juga akan menyebabkan pekerjaan lancar dan maju kan; makanya universitas mendukung ini dan biaya keanggotaanya bisa di-refund gitu deh (tapi ada kondisi yang harus dipenuhi tentunya ya; yang mana aku malas untuk menuliskannya sekarang ) . Eh, tapi refund ini untuk staff aja sih, bukan mahasiswa; kalau mahasiswa ya tetap harus membayar sendiri ya, walaupun tentu dengan harga mahasiswa tentunya . Eh tapi sebenarnya harga €198 ini jugalah harga mahasiswa lho karena PhD kan mendapatkan keuntungan dimana boleh membeli dengan harga mahasiswa.

#1054 – End of March

I cannot believe it is already the end of March! I mean, wow! How fast time flies! Everything, for me, is getting more serious and urgent in April. There is no time to procrastinate in executing some stuffs (or starting to do something). One of them is a new apartment/place to live. My contract with this apartment will end this July, which means that at the end of July I have to move somewhere. Unfortunately, there is no possibility to extend the contract (and I prefer to move somewhere anyway, hahaha . The only thing I am not looking forward to is the inconvenience of moving). Ah, hopefully I will get something!!

End of March also marks the end of the Indian Wells – Key Biscayne tennis tournaments series. Every March, two consecutive big tennis tournaments are held in Indian Wells and Key Biscayne, USA. These two tournaments are the two biggest tournaments after the four grandslams – biggest in the sense of some aspects like prize money, draw size, and prestige. Okay, I will not go into details here, but what made me happy from this year’s series was the return of Venus Williams on court in Key Biscayne. In just her first tournament after her withdrawal from last year’s US Open due to Sjögren’s Syndrome, she reached the quarterfinals of Key Biscayne! Along the way, she defeated world no.3 and reigning Wimbledon Champion, Petra Kvitová, and also Ana Ivanović. She, however, looked extremely fatigued in her quarterfinals match where she lost to Agnieszka Radwańska; probably because of her three consecutive three setters she had in her previous three rounds. Even so, still, welcome back Venus Williams!

Anyway, as I mentioned previously, I was on a mini lock down mode on Tuesday and Wednesday. As you might expect, I was taking a small exam. It was an exam for the Elementary I Dutch course. Well, I actually already passed this course last year and I already got an 8. But I kinda wanted to improve this grade, huahaha , and so I took this “resit” exam. There were 100 questions for this exam, and I did quite well. I got 92, huahaha . But I am still not sure how much this score will translate to TU Delft’s scoring system though (TU Delft grades’ range is from 0 to 10 with 0.5 steps). So I am still waiting for it.

This Friday was also quite a hectic day for me. I was running a simulation for my thesis work while at the same time I was going to Den Haag to get a hair cut and bought some stuffs in the orientalmarkt. And btw, I chose not to go to this barbershop of course, hahaha. I had to get back in Delft at around 2.30 PM and continued my simulation in my office. At 4 PM, I attended a colloquium held from my research group in my campus about probabilistic inversion. And then, just as usual, after the colloquium: free beer in the pub! hahahaha

Epilogue : Yeah, I know this is not really a structure post of mine. I am sorry about that, but I am really tired right now to write something in a more structured manner….

Eh, nggak kerasa tiba-tiba sudah akhir bulan Maret aja ya! Wow! Cepet banget gitu! Bulan April ini, banyak hal, bagiku, menjadi semakin serius dan mendesak nih. Nggak ada waktu lagi buat ditunda-tunda gitu deh (atau setidaknya harus mulai dikerjakan). Salah satunya adalah apartemen/rumah baru gitu. Kontrakku dengan apartemen yang sekarang ini akan berakhir Juli ini, yang mana artinya di akhir Juli aku harus pindahan dong. Sayangnya, nggak mungkin deh kontrak yang ini diperpanjang (dan lagian aku juga lebih memilih untuk pindah sih, hahaha Satu-satunya hal yang bikin malas pindahan adalah keribetannya pindahan itu). Ah, mudah-mudahan aku segera mendapat sesuatu deh!!

Akhir Maret juga ditandai dengan berakhirnya rangkaian turnamen tennis Indian Wells – Key Biscayne. Setiap Maret, dua turnamen tenis besar diadakan berturutan di Indian Wells dan Key Biscayne, USA. Dua turnamen ini adalah dua turnamen terbesar setelah empat grandslam – terbesar dalam aspek total hadiah, jumlah pemain dalam undian, dan gengsi. Oke, aku nggak akan menulis detail-nya disini, tapi satu hal yang membuatku senang tahun ini adalah kembalinya Venus Williams ke lapangan di Key Biscayne. Hanya di turnamen pertamanya semenjak mundurnya ia dari turnamen US Opent tahun lalu karena Sindrom Sjögren’s, ia mencapai perempat-finalnya Key Biscayne loh! Di perjalanannya ke perempat-final itu, ia mengalahkan pemain peringkat 3 dunia dan juara bertahan Wimbledon, Petra Kvitová, dan juga Ana Ivanović. Namun, ia terlihat sangat keletihan di babak perempat-final dimana ia kalah dari Agnieszka Radwańska; mungkin ini disebabkan tiga pertandingan tiga set berturutan yang ia mainkan di tiga babak terakhirnya kali yah. Ah, walaupun begitu, selamat datang kembali Venus Williams!

Anyway, seperti yang kusebutkan sebelumnya, aku berada dalam mode mengunci diri mini hari Selasa dan Rabu lalu. Seperti yang mungkin sudah diduga, aku mengambil sebuah ujian kecil memang. Ujian ini adalah ujian kelas bahasa Belanda level Elementary I. Hmm, sebenarnya aku sudah lulus kelas ini sih tahun lalu dan aku mendapatkan nilai 8 waktu itu. Hanya saja, rasanya kok aku ingin meningkatkan nilai ini ya, huahaha , dan jadilah aku mengambil ujian “remidi” ini. Di ujian ini ada 100 pertanyaan, dan aku mengerjakannya dengan cukup baik. Aku dapat nilai 92, huahaha . Tapi masih belum tahu juga sih nilai segini bakal ditransformasi ke nilai berapa di sistem penilaiannya TU Delft (rentang nilai yang digunakan di TU Delft itu adalah dari 0 sampai 10 dengan jarak/lompatan 0,5 gitu). Jadi ya hitungannya aku masih menunggu nilainya juga sih.

Jumat ini juga cukup menyibukkan bagiku. Aku harus menjalankan simulasi untuk tesisku dimana pada saat yang sama aku juga pergi ke Den Haag untuk potong rambut dan sekalian beli beberapa barang di orientalmarkt. Oh ya btw, tentu saja aku tidak pergi ke salon yang ini lah ya, hahaha. Lalu, aku harus kembali ke Delft jam 2.30 siang dan kemudian melanjutkan simulasiku di kantor. Jam 4 sore, aku menghadiri sebuah colloquium yang diadakan oleh grup risetku di kampus tentang probabilistic inversion. Dan lalu, seperti biasanya, setelah colloquium: bir gratis di pub! hahahaha

Epilog : Ya, ya, aku tahu kok, posting yang ini memang nggak terlalu terstruktur dengan rapi. Maaf ya, habisnya aku juga sekarang ini sudah terlalu capek deh untuk menulis sesuatu dengan lebih terstruktur….  

#1005 – Free Books, Dutch Course, and TV Shows

Free Books

So, effective from last November, the library in my faculty was shut down because the university wanted to cut some expenses in this recession time. And apparently, they did not think that the existence of a library in my faculty was important enough to still be retained. Anyway, not that now we do not have library anymore in the university. No. We still have the one and only central library and I do not think TU Delft will ever even think of shutting down this central library – whose cony architecture has sort of become one symbol of TU Delft in a way. Btw, FYI, before this closure, there were five libraries in the whole university, kinda quite a lot, no?

Anyway, so, apparently they also did not have enough space to store all the books from the closed library. And guess what they did? Giving all the books and collections away for FREE to all students and staffs!! Well, of course not like they had staffs standing somewhere and giving random books away to random passing-by strangers. No. But interested students and staffs should come to the library in two predetermined sessions to pick up any books they liked. Also, to be fair to all students and staffs, each person could only take 10 books maximum. Plus, all people who came got free hot chocolate or coffee and some cookies, muahahahaha

See, a super rare golden opportunity, right??? And because they announced they would open two sessions (both were this week), one in Tuesday noon and another one in Thursday noon, last week I said to myself to come to the library on Tuesday noon. Of course: as early as possible as it was first-come-first-serve basis. So, the earlier you came, the wider array of available books you could take for free. And then, last Tuesday, I FORGOT to come by at the library!!!  Daammnn!!!! How could I do that?? But I calmed myself down saying it was still fine as there was still one more session on Thursday noon, even though it meant that the range of available books would have been reduced probably significantly.

So, this Thursday, I came to the library to pick up some books. I forced myself to not forget this one last opportunity, hahaha And of course because we were allowed to take maximum of 10 books, I planned to go back home with 10 books, muahahaha  . One thing, because this library was formerly my faculty’s library, the books they were giving away were also closely related to the faculty: they were books about mathematics, computer science, and electrical engineering; even though some magazines like National Geographic were also available. But of course I did not want to take the magazines as it seemed to be like wasting this opportunity if I only took magazines, right? hahaha

Anyway, after spending like one hour in the crowded library (it was, without question, a very popular event among students and staffs) and both my arms were killing me after carrying ten books of my choice (10 books were quite heavy! I tell you this!! Look at the picture below, the books were huge), I had finalized my choice of those ten books. As expected, some books that I was initially looking for had been taken away; but I still managed to get some good books though in my opinion.

End of Dutch Course

This Thursday my second level (Elementary II) Dutch Course also ended. Finally! It was quite a relief! Well, you know, I have been extremely busy this quarter, and now I am very happy that I am able to finish this Dutch course  – which I must say “very demanding” in term of time consumed – that I started. And I passed this level also, , which means that I can continue to the third level (Intermediate I).

If you asked me three months ago whether I planned to continue to the third level next semester or not, I probably would have said ‘yes’. However, now, after knowing how demanding it really is and how frustrating it is to have to prepare myself for the course while I am also extremely busy with other things from campus, which I should prioritize more than this Dutch course for now, I will answer ‘no’. I mean, I definitely really want to continue to the third level. However, I don’t think it will be wise for me to do that next semester, the semester where I must focus on my thesis, right? So, I plan to take the third level probably after I graduate, hmmm.

The Amazing Race 19 and Young Apprentice

Anyway, earlier this week, the newest season of two of my most favorite reality shows came to an end. The Amazing Race 19 ended beautifully (for me) as my favorite team: Ernie and Cindy won the race. Quite a different story for Young Apprentice, I was not that excited to see the final as the two finalists were just okay for me. I mean, I still think Harry H. should have been in the final, even though I also think Zara deserved to be there as well (and she did). Anyway, after James’ and Zara’s performances in the final task, I think James should have won. He impressed me with his idea of the game he developed, which frankly I thought was trash at first, hahaha. But in the end, Lord Sugar picked Zara as the winner, hmmm.

Buku Gratis

Jadi, efektif mulai November tahun lalu, perpustakaan di fakultasku resmi ditutup karena universitas ingin memotong beberapa pengeluaran di masa resesi ini. Dan ternyata, mereka merasa bahwa keberadaan perpustakaan di fakultasku itu tidaklah terlalu penting. Eh, tapi ini bukan berarti jadi nggak ada perpustakaan di kampus gitu ya. Enggak banget. Masih ada perpustakaan keren kok yang aku rasa nggak akan pernah deh terbesit pikiran di benak petinggi TU Delft untuk menutupnya: perpustakaan pusat (central library) – yang arsitektur kerucutnya telah menjadi salah satu simbol kebanggan TU Delft. Btw, FYI nih, sebelum penutupan ini, ada lima perpustakaan loh di kampus ini, lumayan banyak kan?

Ngomong-ngomong, ternyata, mereka juga tidak memiliki tempat untuk menampung buku-buku yang dulunya jadi koleksi perpustakaan yang ditutup ini. Dan lalu apa yang mereka lakukan? Yang mereka lakukan adalah: membagikan buku-buku dan koleksi-koleksi itu DENGAN GRATIS ke semua mahasiswa dan staff!   Yah, tentu saja ya bukan berarti terus mereka ada staff yang berdiri dimana gitu membagi-bagikan buku secara acak ke setiap orang yang lewat. Tentu tidak. Tapi, mahasiswa dan staff yang tertarik bisa datang ke perpustakaan itu pada dua sesi yang telah ditentukan untuk mengambil buku apa pun yang mereka suka. Dan juga, supaya adil bagi semua mahasiswa dan staff, setiap orang hanya boleh mengambil maksimal 10 buku aja. Plus, semua yang datang juga dikasih minuman coklat hangat atau kopi dan kue gratis loh, muahahahaha

Nah, ini beneran kesempatan emas yang super langka kan??? Dan karena mereka membuka dua sesi (dua-duanya minggu ini), satu di hari Selasa siang dan satunya di hari Kamis siang, minggu lalu aku berkata pada diriku untuk datang pas hari Selasanya. Tentu saja dong seawal mungkin soalnya sistemnya kan siapa-cepat-dia-dapat gitu. Jadi, kalau datang makin awal, pilihan buku yang tersedia juga makin luas dan banyak kan. Dan lalu, Selasa kemarin, aku LUPA dong buat mampir di perpustakaannya!!  Siaaaall!!!! Kok bisa sih kelupaan gitu?? Ah, tapi aku kemudian menenangkan diriku dengan berkata bahwa toh masih ada satu sesi lagi di hari Kamis, walau ini berarti pilihan buku yang tersedia tentunya bakal lebih sedikit sih.

Jadilah Kamis ini aku pergi ke perpustakaannya untuk mengambil beberapa buku. Tentu saja aku memaksa diriku untuk tidak melupakan kesempatan terakhir ini, hahaha Dan tentu saja karena kami hanya diperbolehkan mengambil maksimal 10 buku, aku berencana untuk tidak pulang sebelum mendapatkan 10 buku, muahahaha  O iya, dan karena perpustakaan ini dulunya perpustakaan fakultas, buku-buku yang ada juga buku-buku yang berhubungan dengan fakultas ya: seperti tentang matematika, ilmu komputer, dan teknik elektro; walau ada juga beberapa majalah kayak National Geographic gitu sih. Tapi aku nggak mau dong mengambil majalah kayak gitu. Rugi banget lah kalau kesempatan ini malah dipakai cuma buat mengambil majalah (yang harganya paling berapa doank), ya nggak? hahaha

Lalu, setelah menghabiskan waktu satu jam di perpustakaan yang ramai itu (pembagian buku ini, tentu saja, merupakan event yang sangat populer bagi mahasiswa dan staff) dan kedua lenganku sudah capek banget setelah membawa sepuluh buku (10 buku itu berat banget loh! Percaya deh!! Liat aja gambarnya di atas, bukunya gede-gede, hahaha ), akhirnya aku sudah memilah sepuluh buku pilihanku. Seperti yang sudah kuduga, beberapa buku yang aku incar sudah diambil orang lain; tapi aku masih mendapatkan beberapa buku yang bagus sih menurutku.

Akhir Kelas bahasa Belanda

Kamis ini, kelas bahasa Belanda level duaku (Elementary II) juga berakhir. Akhirnya!  Agak lega nih aku! Yah, tahulah, aku kan kuarter ini sudah sibuk banget gitu ya, dan tentu sekarang aku senang banget dong akhirnya aku berhasil menyelesaikan kelas bahasa Belanda ini – yang harus aku katakan “sangat demanding” dalam hal waktu yang harus aku alokasikan untuknya – yang aku mulai. Dan aku lulus loh, , yang artinya aku bisa melanjutkan ke level tiga (Intermediate I).

Kalau pada bertanya kepadaku tiga bulan lalu mengenai apakah aku berencana melajutkan ke level tiga semester depan atau tidak, mungkin aku akan menjawabnya dengan ‘ya’. Namun, sekarang, setelah bener-bener merasakan bagaimana demanding kursus ini dan bagaimana stress-nya untuk harus mempersiapkan diriku untuk kursus ini ketika aku juga sangat sibuk dengan hal-hal lain dari kampus, yang harus aku prioritaskan lebih tinggi daripada kelas bahasa Belanda ini untuk sekarang kan, aku akan menjawabnya dengan ‘tidak’. Maksudku, tentu saja aku sebenarnya ingin banget untuk langsung melanjutkan ke level tiga gitu ya. Namun, aku rasa bukanlah keputusan yang bijak andaikata aku langsung mengambilnya semester depan, semester dimana aku harus fokus kepada tesisku, ya kan? Jadi, rencanaku sih aku akan mengambil level tiganya mungkin setelah lulus nanti deh, hmmm.

The Amazing Race 19 dan Young Apprentice

Anyway, awal minggu ini, musim terbaru dari dua reality show favoritku berakhir. The Amazing Race 19 berakhir dengan keren (untukku) karena tim favoritku, Ernie dan Cindy, menang. Agak berbeda dengan Young Apprentice, aku nggak terlalu bersemangat nonton finalnya karena aku kurang sreg dengan finalisnya. Maksudku, aku masih merasa Harry H. seharusnya masuk final deh, walau Zara juga lumayan berhak sih di final (dan dia memang masuk final). Ngomong-ngomong, setelah melihat performanya James dan Zara di final, aku rasa James-lah yang seharusnya menang. Ia membuatku kagum dengan idenya akan game yang ia kembangkan, yang awalnya aku kira idenya jelek banget tuh, hahaha. Eh, tapi akhirnya Lord Sugar malah memilih Zara sebagai pemenangnya, hmmm. Ya udah deh.

#999 – Update this Week in Triple Nine

Okay, the numbering order of this entry is quite nice: 999. It means that this particular entry will be the last entry of mine with triple-digit numbering order!! Wow!! I have almost written down one thousand entries!! Anyway, in this last triple-digit entry, I would like to share a bit of my life this week:

Manic Monday

My Monday was truly a crazy Monday for me. As I mentioned here, my thesis supervisor arranged a meeting for me with an expert to ask any questions (related to her expertise of course) regarding the internship stage I am now right now. The meeting would be held starting at 6.15 PM (originally at 6) because I had a Dutch course I could not miss at 5 to 6 as there was a small written exam during this particular class.

Yes, this test, this small written Dutch test only took like 10 – 15 minutes but I had to prepare myself for freaking TWO DAYS for it!! Why? Well, it was a gatentekst (fill in the blanks) test and for this particular test, the materials were 9 chapters from this current level (second level) I am in and freaking 11 chapters from the first level; bringing a total of 20 chapters for me to study!!!  And let me tell you this, studying 20 chapters sure takes A LOT OF TIME especially while I actually also have something else to do: like my project for the internship and a paper about Uncertainty Analysis that I have to submit before the end of this year!

Anyway, so I used my Monday from morning to afternoon preparing myself for this little test. I did quite okay in the test though, I got 90 . And one of the mistakes I made was just a 50/50 chance as I knew the answer would either be “de” or “het” and it just happened that I picked the wrong one, hahaha (note: there was no formula to tell whether a singular Dutch noun goes with “de” (like “de supermarkt“) or “het” (like “het station“), we just have to memorize it ).

After the course, I then went to my supervisor’s office to have the meeting. The meeting went really nice btw; and it ended at almost 9 PM!! Then I went back home and finally I could coke some (late) dinner, hahaha.

Young Apprentice

I just realized last weekend that the second season of the spin-off show of The Apprentice UK, Young Apprentice was premiered about a month ago. And so I caught myself up last weekend.

I think this series is still as interesting and exciting as ever. And my favorite contestants this season are Harry H., Zara, Gbemi (but she was already fired in Week 5), and Hayley (but she was also fired this week in Week 6); and also to some degree Harry M.

Uncertainty Analysis Project

As mentioned above, I have to work on an uncertainty project and write a paper about if before the end of this year. Well, actually I already worked on the research last summer and even presented my findings last June. Hence, actually, in principal, all I needed to do is just to write the freaking paper down. However, in that presentation my lecturer asked me to check one extra case and run a simulation with it to test the robustness of the method I researched in extreme condition. And this extra simulation (and rechecking my previous simulations to avoid the effect(s) of bug(s) [if any] in the outcome of the program) was one of the biggest topic of my life this week.

Last Wednesday, however, I got a very strange result. I was sure there was no bug in my program and it worked perfectly fine for the simplest case. But when I turned the case to be more complicated, I got contradicting conclusions from the two statistics tests that I performed in my study. Well, the thing is, contradicting (different) conclusions in statistics tests is not a surprising phenomenon to observe; but in my case, I think it is quite astonishing as the p-value I got from one test is 0.9999… and from the other is 0.0000… over the same subject!  Basically, one test tells me: “Don’t you dare to even think about saying NO to this hypothesis“; and the other one is like: “Don’t you dare to think about saying YES to this hypothesis“. And both of them are extremely strong in their “opinions”, as reflected in those two p-values above. See, confusing? No?? Note: I found a way to deal with it btw, but I don’t think it is necessary to write it down here, agree?? hahaha

Anyway, back to non-math thing now : you might say: well, but you had like six months since last June to work on the paper and extra simulation, why did you do it just now? Well, as I am sure you also know, it was not that I was lazy and procrastinated this project before. I was super busy with other courses and projects with deadlines before this project; and so I had to prioritized them first before this Uncertainty Analysis project. And now is the [perfect] time for me to work on it.

Oke, nomor urut posting ini cantik juga yah: 999. Ini artinya, posting ini adalah posting terakhir dengan nomor urut tiga digit dong ya!! Wow!! Tiba-tiba saja aku sudah hampir menulis seribu posting!! Ngomong-ngomong, di posting tiga digit terakhir ini, aku ingin menulis sedikit tentang hidupku minggu ini:

Senin Gila

Hari Seninku beneran melelahkan sekali deh. Seperti yang sudah aku sebutkan disini, pembimbing tesisku telah mengaturkan sebuah meeting untukku dengan seorang ahli untuk menanyakan segala pertanyaan yang ada di kepalaku (yang berhubungan sama bidang ahlinya ini tentunya ya). Meeting-nya akan dimulai jam 6.15 sore (awalnya sebenarnya sih jam 6) karena aku ada kelas bahasa Belanda dari jam 5 sampai jam 6 yang tidak bisa aku lewatkan karena ada sebuah ujian kecil gitu deh di kelas yang satu ini.

Ya, ujian ini, satu ujian kecil bahasa Belanda yang tesnya berlangsung hanya 10 – 15 menit gitu deh tapi aku harus mempersiapkan diriku selama DUA HARI loh buatnya!! Mengapa? Yah, tes yang kemarin ini modelnya adalah tes gatentekst (mengisi titik-titik yang kosong gitu) dan untuk tes yang satu ini, materinya itu 9 bab dari level sekarang ini (level dua) dan ditambah 11 bab dari level satu dulu; sehingga totalnya ada 20 bab gitu deh buat dipelajari!!!  Dan aku kasih tahu nih ya, belajar 20 bab itu memakan BANYAK SEKALI WAKTU yang berharga loh apalagi kayak sekarang ini, dimana aku juga ada banyak hal lain yang harus dilakukan kan: misalnya proyek magangku dan sebuah paper yang harus aku tulis dalam lingkup Uncertainty Analysis yang harus aku kumpulkan sebelum akhir tahun ini!

Jadi, aku menggunakan waktuku di hari Senin dari pagi sampai siang untuk mempersiapkan diriku untuk ujian kecil ini kan. Akhirnya nilaiku lumayan juga sih, aku dapat 90 . Dan satu dari kesalahan yang aku buat sebenarnya tuh 50/50 loh karena aku tahu jawabannya itu “de” atau “het” dan aku memilih yang salah aja, hahaha (catatan: nggak ada rumusnya untuk mengatakan apakah sebuah kata benda tunggal dalam bahasa Belanda itu berpasangan dengan “de” (kayak misalnya “de supermarkt“) atau “het” (kayak misalnya “het station“), jadi ya memang mesti dihafalin gitu deh ).

Setelah kelasnya selesai, aku terus pergi ke kantornya pembimbingku untuk kemudian mengikuti meeting-nya. Meeting-nya berjalan dengan lancar sih btw; dan berakhirnya hampir jam 9 malam loh!! Jadilah kemudian aku baru pulang ke rumah jam 9 dan kemudian memasak dan makan malam jam segitu, hahaha.

Young Apprentice

Aku baru sadar wiken lalu bahwa musim kedua dari acara tambahannya dari The Apprentice UK, Young Apprentice, mulai tayang sekitar satu bulan yang lalu. Jadilah aku terus maraton nonton mengejar episodenya wiken lalu.

Aku masih merasa bahwa serial ini menarik banget yah. Dan kontestan favoritku musim ini adalah Harry H., Zara, Gbemi (tapi dia sudah dipecat di Minggu 5), dan Hayley (tapi dia dipecat minggu ini di Minggu 6); dan sedikit juga Harry M.

Proyek Uncertainty Analysis

Seperti yang aku singgung di atas, aku harus mengerjakan sebuah proyek yang berkaitan dengan uncertainty (‘ketidak-pastian’) dan menulis sebuah paper tentangnya sebelum akhir tahun ini. Yah, sebenarnya risetnya sudah aku lakukan musim panas yang lalu ya, bahkan hasil yang aku temukan juga sudah aku presentasikan di bulan Juni. Jadi, sebenarnya, pada dasarnya apa yang harus aku lakukan ya tinggal menulis paper-nya aja sih. Tapi, di presentasi itu, dosenku memintaku untuk mengecek satu kasus ekstra dan menjalankan simulasi dengannya untuk mengetes robustness dari metode yang aku teliti dalam kondisi ekstrim. Dan simulasi ekstra ini (dan mengecek ulang simulasiku yang lalu untuk menghindari adanya efek buruk dari bug(s) [yang mungkin ada] di hasil dari programku) adalah satu topik besar untukku minggu ini.

Rabu kemarin, tapinya, aku justru mendapatkan suatu hasil yang aneh deh. Aku yakin deh nggak ada bug di kode programku dan programku juga bekerja dengan sempurna untuk kasus paling sederhana. Tapi ketika aku mengganti kasus menjadi agak lebih rumit sedikit, aku mendapat hasil yang kontradiktif banget dari dua tes statistik yang aku lakukan di penelitianku. Yah, sebenarnya ya, hasil yang kontradiktif (berbeda) dari tes statistik yang berbeda itu bukanlah sesuatu yang mengejutkan kok; hanya saja, dalam kasusku, ini mengejutkan saja karena p-value yang aku dapat dari satu tes adalah 0.9999… dan dari tes yang lain adalah 0.0000… padahal keduanya mengetes hal yang sama!  Gampangnya, satu tes berkata kepadaku: “Jangan berani-beraninya ya kamu berpikir untuk MENOLAK hipotesa ini“; dan tes satunya bilang: “Jangan berani-beraninya ya kamu berpikir untuk MENERIMA hipotesa ini“. Dan keduanya itu kekeuh banget sama “opini” mereka, seperti yang terrefleksikan dari kedua p-values di atas. Nah coba, bingung nggak tuh? Note: aku akhirnya menemukan cara untuk mengatasinya sih, tapi aku rasa ini nggak penting deh untuk ditulis disini, setuju?? hahaha

Ngomong-ngomong, kembali ke pembicaraan non-matematika nih : mungkin pada mau berkata: yah, kamu kan sebenarnya punya waktu semenjak Juni lalu untuk menulis paper-nya dan mengerjakan simulasi ekstranya, lantas kenapa kok kamu baru ngerjainnya sekarang? Yah, pasti pada tahu juga dong, aku bukannya malas atau menunda-nunda pekerjaan yah. Hanya saja, aku sudah sibuk banget dengan kelas lain dan proyek-proyek lain dengan deadline sebelum paper ini;  dan tentu aku harus memprioritaskan mereka lebih dulu dong sebelum mengerjakan proyek Uncertainty Analysis ini. Dan sekaranglah saat [yang sempurna] untuk mengerjakannya.

Meeting for My Internship

There has been some good progress in my internship work. Well, not that I have currently touched the area of my research of the internship, but I am currently in the latter stage of preparing myself for that. And I think this stage is the crucial and in a way, might be the most difficult one. I have a lot of questions about it and my supervisor has arranged a meeting with an expert in this area next Monday.

Fooled on Wednesday

The only thing is that the aforementioned meeting will be held at 6 PM: exactly right after my Dutch course schedule (5 – 6 PM). I cannot miss this particular class next Monday as there will be a small test and this test can only be taken that Monday. I have told my supervisor that I will be available at around 6.15 PM (as it takes time for me to go from the classroom to my supervisor’s office where the meeting will be held), and she said that is fine.

But there is still another problem. After each meeting of the Dutch course, there is a listening test in the computer room. This means that I will miss this test next Monday, which is fine btw as I can take this listening test anytime I want (as long as the computer room is ready). This quarter, however, the listening test schedule is a bit weird because instead of being held on Monday and Thursday (in continuation with the classes), it is held on Monday and Wednesday. This quarter I don’t usually go to the test on Wednesday and opt to have all tests at once on Monday. However, because of this meeting (which will cause me to miss the test on Monday), if I did not do the test this Wednesday, the materials would pile up in the end and I would have to do a lot of tests at once. Something that is still doable in my opinion, but of course (much) more stressful.

And hence I chose to have a listening test last Wednesday. This meant that I had to prepare myself for the test first. Practically, I “lost” the whole Wednesday for this preparation as I also had my part-time job to do. But I thought it was okay as it was for the “greater good” of my life and progress next week.

At the specified time (6 PM), I went to the computer room but noone was there (well, there were some other students but there was no assistant or someone responsible for the test), something that was quite weird. I met my friend Donghua there (who was also going to take the test). Someone then said maybe it would be held at 7 PM or so. So Donghua and I decided to go to the aula to have dinner (as I was in NO mood to go back home, cook, and had dinner, for sure).

Well, it was the first time I had dinner at the aula though, hahaha The choice of meal was fried rice with some salad and sauce (medium for 3.4 euro and large for 5 euro) or chicken cordon bleu with potatoes and salad (3.6 euro). The medium-sized rice seemed very small compared to the chicken cordon bleu. And because the price was not so much different, I decided to pick the chicken, huahahaha .  Yes, quantity is always important, agree??

At 7 PM we went back to the computer room. But the one who was supposed to be there (the assistant I mean) was still not there. And so I checked the schedule of my Dutch course with the public computer and I realized that this week was a special week as the listening test would be held on Thursday, NOT Wednesday! Arrrrggggghhhhh!!! Damn! I had spent some hours that day to prepare for the test and it would not be held that day!? I mean, should I have just followed my usual pattern of studing Dutch on Thusday (before the class) to also prepare for the test, it would have been alright and perfect. Now I “sacrificed” my Wednesday for nothing. I could have used the time I used that Wednesday for Dutch for something else like, well, my internship maybe? hahahaha.

My First Tennis Lesson

So, earlier today I had my first tennis lesson. I was so excited of course! Well, actually the first meeting was last week but I could not come because I had this planned dinner. Anyway, so there are 14 clay courts in TU Delft. And because now it is already approaching winter, four of the courts are covered with a big “balloon”. For this tennis lesson, we of course get the priority to use the ballooned courts, huahahaha .

How was it? Well, it went well in my opinion, but I was still terrible; something that was expected because it was my first time. It was a beginner course but maybe I should have enrolled at the introduction course instead (but unfortunately the schedule for the introduction level is not friendly enough for me this quarter). Today I only learned mainly the super basic thing like my forehand and backhand hit; and hence I was kinda behind. Surprisingly (for me though), my backhand was better than my forehand! hahaha . But still, I still need A LOT OF practice to be able to play well. Tennis is quite a unique sport anyway as we cannot just play once we start learning a little bit. We have to practice a lot first, and then we can play, hmmmm. That is why I plan to take at least two tennis lessons (per week) next quarter (I hope I can take three though), huahahaha .

Anyway, inside the balloon, I thought it would be warmer. But no, it was not warmer at all. But at least there was no wind that might disturb the play, hahaha

Meeting untuk Internship-ku

Ada kemajuan yang cukup baik di kondisi internship-ku (magang). Yah, bukan berarti aku sudah masuk area riset untuk internship ini ya, belum, tapi kini aku sedang berada di fase terakhir dalam hal persiapan diriku untuk itu. Dan menurutku, fase ini adalah fase yang sangat krusial, dan bisa dikatakan mungkin adalah fase yang tersulit untuk proyekku ini. Aku ada banyak sekali pertanyaan tentangnya dan pembimbingku telah mengaturkan sebuah meeting dengan seorang ahli di bidang ini hari Senin nanti.

Dikerjain di hari Rabu

Masalahnya, meeting yang disebutkan di atas itu akan diadakan jam 6 sore: tepat setelah kelas bahasa Belandaku (jam 5 – 6 sore). Nah, masalahnya lagi, aku nggak bisa melewatkan kelas Senin depan karena akan ada tes kecil yang hanya bisa diambil Senin besok itu. Aku sudah bilang ke pembimbingku kalau mungkin aku baru bisa hadirnya jam 6.15an sih (kan butuh waktu juga gitu dong untuk pergi dari ruang kelas ke kantor pembimbingku dimana meeting akan diadakan), dan untungnya sih katanya nggak papa.

Tapi ada masalah lain. Setelah setiap kelas bahasa Belanda, ada ujian listening gitu di ruang komputer. Ini artinya, aku akan melewatkan ujian listening hari Senin besok ini, yang sebenarnya nggak masalah karena ujian listening bisa diambil kapan pun kok (selama ruang komputernya siap gitu aja). Namun, kuarter ini, jadwal ujian listening-nya agak aneh karena diadakan di hari Senin dan Rabu; bukannya hari Senin dan Kamis (bersamaan dengan jadwal kelasnya gitu). Nah, kuarter ini sih aku biasanya nggak pernah ambil ujian listening di hari Rabu deh dan memilih ujiannya disekalianin aja semua bahan setiap hari Senin gitu. Namun, karena adanya meeting ini (sehingga aku harus melewatkan ujiannya di hari Senin), kalau aku nggak mengambil ujian listening hari Rabu kemarin, artinya materinya akan menumpuk banget dong dan pada akhirnya aku jadi harus menyelesaikan banyak banget bahan dalam sekali tes. Hmm, masih bisa dilakukan sih menurutku, tapi ya tentu saja (jauh) lebih bikin stress lah ya.

Oleh karenanya, aku memutuskan untuk mengambil ujian listening deh Rabu kemarin. Ini artinya sebelum itu aku harus mempersiapkan diri dulu dong. Nah, praktis, aku jadi “kehilangan” seluruh hari Rabu untuk persiapan ini dan juga kan aku ada kerjaan paruh waktu yang harus aku lakukan di hari Rabu gitu deh. Ah, tapi nggak papa kok, toh ini semua demi kelancaran hidupku dan kemajuan proyek minggu depan.

Di jam yang ditentukan (jam 6 sore), aku pergi ke ruang komputernya tapi kok nggak ada siapa-siapa ya disana (yah, ada sih beberapa mahasiswa lain tapi nggak ada asisten atau orang yang bertanggung-jawab akan tesnya gitu), sesuatu yang sangat aneh. Aku bertemu temanku, Donghua, disana (ia juga berencana mengambil ujian itu Rabu lalu). Lalu ada siapa gitu yang ngomong kalau mungkin tesnya baru dimulai jam 7 malam. Ya udah akhirnya aku dan Donghua memutuskan untuk makan malam dulu di aula (males banget dong ya kalau aku pulang dulu, trus masak, trus baru makan malam).

Eh, ini kali pertamaku makan malam di aula loh, hahaha Waktu itu menu pilihannya adalah nasi goreng dengan salad dengan saus apa  gitu (porsi mediumnya 3,4 euro dan porsi besarnya 5 euro) dan chicken cordon bleu dengan kentang dan salad (3,6 euro). Karena porsi mediumnya nasi kelihatan kecil banget dibandingin chicken cordon bleu-nya, ditambah lagi karena harganya nggak beda jauh, ya udah akhirnya aku memilih ayamnya aja, huahahaha .  Ya, kuantitas lebih penting dong, setuju??

Jam 7 malam, kami kembali ke ruang komputernya. Tapi masih nggak ada siapa-siapa disana (asisten maksudnya). Jadilah aku kemudian mengecek jadwal kelas bahasa Belandaku lewat komputer umum, dan barulah aku sadar bahwa minggu ini adalah minggu spesial karena tes listening-nya akan diadakan di hari Kamis, BUKAN Rabu! Arrrrggggghhhhh!!!  Sial! Udah capek-capek mempersiapkan diri buat tes selama beberapa jam eh kok tesnya nggak diadakan di hari itu sih!? Maksudku, andaikan aku mengikuti jadwalku kayak biasa, yaitu belajar bahasa Belanda buat persiapan kelas sekaligus tes listening di hari Kamis, semuanya masih oke-oke saja deh. Ini sudah mengorbankan hari Rabu ternyata malah sia-sia. Maksudku, kan bisa tuh sebenarnya aku menggunakan waktu tersebut untuk hal lain, kayak misalnya internship-ku? hahahaha.

Les Tenis Pertamaku

Jadi, sore tadi aku mengikuti les tenis pertamaku. Aku sangat bersemangat tentunya! Yah, sebenarnya pertemuan pertamanya itu minggu lalu dan aku bolos dong , hahahaha . Ah, tapi bolos itu karena aku sudah ada rencana buat makan malam ini sih. Ngomong-ngomong, ada 14 lapangan tenis tanah liat di TU Delft. Dan karena sekarang ini sudah mendekati musim dingin, empat lapangannya ditutupi dengan sebuah “balon” besar. Dan untuk les tenis ini, tentu dong kami mendapatkan prioritas untuk menggunakan lapangan yang di balon, huahahaha .

Bagaimanakah lesnya? Yah, berjalan dengan baik sih menurutku, tapi tentu saja dong ya aku masih payah banget; sesuatu yang sudah diduga karena kan tadi itu adalah kali pertamaku. Lesnya tadi adalah level beginner sih dan mungkin seharusnya aku ikutan di kelas introduction deh (tapi masalahnya jadwal kelas introduction nggak cocok sih sama jadwalku kuarter ini). Tadi aku belajar yang dasar-dasar banget sih kayak forehand dan backhand gitu; dan artinya aku agak ketinggalan dibanding yang lain. Eh, tapi mengejutkan ya (mengejutkan buatku sih), ternyata backhand-ku relatif lebih bagus daripada forehand-ku loh! hahaha . Tapi tetap aja ya, aku masih butuh BANYAK BANGET latihan supaya bisa bermain dengan baik. Tenis itu kan olahraga yang unik dimana nggak bisa deh kita belajar sebentar trus bisa main. Kita harus berlatih banyak dulu, baru kemudian bisa main deh, hmmmm. Makanya aku berencana untuk mengambil setidaknya dua les tenis (per minggu) kuarter depan (kalau bisa tiga sih), huahahaha .

Anyway, di dalam balonnya, aku kira kan bakal hangat gitu ya. Eh, ternyata enggak loh, masih sama aja dingin gitu. Cuma memang setidaknya nggak ada angin yang mengganggu permainannya sih, hahaha

Random Thing of The Day

So a few days ago, I was making a jelly. The jelly powder I bought in the orientalmarkt; and this was the same jelly powder that is widely sold in Indonesia (Swa**ow G**be brand). When I looked at the packaging, I realized that apparently this jelly was such an international product, because:

See? All information were printed in English and in Indonesian. Because imported by the Dutch, the “cooking instruction” part was covered by list of ingredients written in English and in Dutch. Then, the company who did this export/import thing was based in Singapore. And even more, the most surprising thing in my opinion, this jelly powder was manufactured in CHILE!! Wow!! So international, no? hahaha

The Forgotten Tofu

Apparently, I also bought (raw) tofu when I went to the orientalmarkt three weeks ago. At home, I kept the tofu in my fridge. And then, that tofu was forgotten until yesterday! haha I suddenly saw the tofu lying innocently in the back of my fridge, and then I remembered that I indeed bought a tofu three weeks ago! And so, as a result, my cooking today involved tofu, haha. Poor tofu, being forgotten and ignored like that .

p.s: the tofu was still good as during the three weeks, I did not open the packaging; and so the inside was still preserved as it was vacuumed.  

Tennis Lesson

At this occasion, I bought a Sports Card so that I can use all sporting facilities (but the gym) in TU Delft for free. Well, one facility that I was eyeing at was the free tennis lesson, huahaha . I already bought the tennis racket three weeks ago, and now it is already the time to register at the course. The registration for the next quarter period (November – January) was opened last Monday. And so I checked the registration to register myself in the course.

However, the tennis course next quarter is not really friendly schedule-wise. They will only open three classes in the beginner level (actually there is an introduction level; but my friend told me that I can actually skip the introduction level and go directly to beginner level, hahaha ); and two of them are during my Dutch course (conflicting schedule, or is scheduled one hour before my Dutch course; and this was impossible as one hour before my Dutch course, I always must prepare myself for the class). The third one is at 6 PM on Friday. Well, this one is fine though, as I do not have anything else scheduled for this slot anyway. However, I will have a class to assist for my part time job every Friday from 2 to 5.30 PM.

But whatever, as I have no other option. Because I am now on fire to take the lesson, I decided to register myself for the Friday course. But this means that perhaps I will have to bring snacks during my part time job so that I will not be starving during the tennis lesson, huahahaha .

New Sports Card

As I mentioned in the link above, there was a problem with my account in the sport centre system. At first I thought this was because of administration problem or something; but it turned out to not be true! And so I complaint to the sport centre a few days ago. Long story short, finally they fixed the problem and now I can book and register in anything (related to the sport centre) via internet! hehe Well, I just think that now is not the time to go to the sport desk in the sport centre just to book and register in something anymore, right? It is already 2011! The era of the internet! hahaha

And yesterday, I got an email that instructed me to remake my Sports Card. So this afternoon I walked to the Sport Centre to remake my card, just as instructed.

Random Thing of The Day

Jadi ceritanya dua hari yang lalu aku bikin agar-agar gitu. Serbuk agarnya aku beli di orientalmarkt dan ini tuh serbuk agar yang sama kayak yang banyak ditemui di Indonesia gitu deh (merk Swa**ow G**be). Waktu melihat bungkusnya, aku menyadari bahwa agar-agar ini tuh produk yang internasional banget ya, karena:

Nah kan? Bahasa yang dicetak tuh bahasa Inggris dan bahasa Indonesia. Karena diimpor oleh Belanda, bagian “cara penyajiannya” ditempelin tulisan tentang bahan baku pakai bahasa Inggris dan bahasa Belanda. Lalu, perusahaan yang melakukan ekspor ini ternyata berbasis di Singapura. Dan lagi, yang paling mengejutkan nih menurutku, agar-agar ini dibuatnya di, CHILI!!! Wow!! Internasional banget nggak tuh!? hahaha

Tahu yang Terlupakan

Jadi ceritanya waktu ke orientalmarkt tiga minggu yang lalu aku juga (ternyata) beli tahu (mentah). Nah, aku simpan tahu itu di kulkas kan. Dan kemudian, terlupakanlah tahu itu sampai kemarin! haha Tiba-tiba aku melihat tahu itu tergeletak dengan pasrahnya di bagian belakang kulkas, dan baru ingatlah aku kalau memang aku beli tahu tiga minggu yang lalu! Sebagai akibatnya, masakanku hari ini berhubungan sama tahu deh, haha. Kasihan ya tahunya, terlupakan gitu .

p.s: tahunya masih bagus karena selama tiga minggu ini kan bungkusnya nggak aku buka sama sekali tuh; jadi dalamnya ya awet gitu deh karena kedap udara. 

Les Tenis

Pada waktu ini kan aku membeli Sports Card tuh supaya bisa memakai semua (kecuali gym) fasilitas olahraga di TU Delft dengan gratis. Nah, satu fasilitas yg paling aku incar adalah les tenis gratis, huahaha . Tiga minggu yang lalu aku sudah beli raket tenisnya kan tuh, nah sekarang saatnya daftar di lesnya deh. Pendaftaran buat les periode kuarter depan (November – Januari) dibuka hari Senin kemarin ini. Jadilah aku dengan semangat 45 mendaftarkan diri di kursusnya.

Hanya saja, pilihan jadwal yang ada agak kurang bersahabat nih. Kuarter depan cuma dibuka 3 kelas buat level beginner (sebenarnya ada level introduction sih; tapi kata temanku nggak masalah koq skip yang level introduction dan langsung masuk yang beginner, hahaha ); dan dua di antaranya diadakan di saat aku sedang ada kelas bahasa Belanda (jadwalnya bentrok, atau jadwalnya tuh sejam sebelum kelas bahasa Belanda gitu; dimana ini nggak memungkinkan karena sejam sebelum kelas bahasa Belanda, sudah pasti aku sedang belajar buat mempersiapkan diri gitu deh). Yang satu lagi diadakan hari Jumat jam 6 sore. Nggak masalah sih, aku nggak ada jadwal lain buat jadwal itu. Hanya saja, hari Jumat itu aku ada kelas yang harus aku asistensiin dalam rangka kerja part time gitu deh dari jam 2 siang sampai jam 5.30 sore.

Tapi ya udah, nggak ada pilihan lagi kan. Dan berhubung aku lagi semangat nih buat les tenis, ya udah yang hari Jumat itu aku ambil aja. Kayaknya nanti waktu kerja part time aku juga harus bawa snack nih biar pas les tenisnya nggak kelaparan banget, huahahaha .

Sports Card Baru

O iya, kayak yang aku tulis di link di atas itu, ada masalah sama akunku di sistem sport centre. Awalnya aku kira ini masalah administrasi; ternyata bukan! Jadilah beberapa waktu yang lalu aku komplain gitu ke sport centre-nya. Dan singkat cerita, akhirnya masalahnya diperbaiki juga dan kini aku sudah bisa booking dan registrasi segala macam (yang berhubungan sama sport centre) lewat internet! hehe Kan males aja gitu ya kalau mau booking atau registrasi koq harus pergi ke sport desk di sport centre segala gitu. Sekarang kan udah zaman internet gitu, hahaha

Dan kemarin aku dapat email yang menginstruksikanku untuk membuat ulang Sports Card-ku. Ya udah tadi sore aku ke Sport Centre buat membuat ulang Sports Card-ku; yang artinya harus ada sesi pemotretan lagi *apaseh* gitu deh, hahaha .

#986 – Busy Week

ENGLISH

I certainly feel that this week has been quite a busy week for me. I mean, in term of the total actual workload, maybe it is not that much different from other typical weeks; however, it just that the stuffs I had to tackle this week were so diverse, including this water leak, that I felt I had more things to do.

Dutch Course

So, my second level Dutch course started this week with two meetings: one on Monday and one on Thursday. So far, it has been going quite well. I just have to adjust myself to “studying for the materials at least 1.5 hours before the course starts to avoid being blank during the class” pattern again, after not doing it for the past six months or so (I had to be in this mode also when I was taking the first level course earlier this year).

Anyway, just in the first lecture, the course already surprised me btw: for the first assignment, we all had to make a two-minute presentation in Dutch for the second class (Thursday)! My first reaction was: “Are you kidding me??” hahaha. But then, coming to think about it, I realized that it was not a big deal actually, a two-minute presentation was nothing and not that long, right? hahaha And then, of course I prepared for my speech on Thursday. There were like 15 people in the class, and the order of presentation was picked randomly. In the end, there was not enough time for all students to do the presentation; hence some of them did not have to present, including me! Arrrrgggghhhhh. Damn, I spent some time preparing for the presentation and in the end I did not even have to do it! But it is okay though, the positive thing was that still, I already studied Dutch through the preparation, no?

Meeting

Next quarter, I will also be a student assistant in one course for Bachelor students for my part time job. I have been assigned in one course for the first year international Bachelor aerospace students. The course will start in two weeks; and there was a meeting regarding the course last Wednesday. So, in my opinion, I think this class will take more of my time in a week than the class I handled last quarter. But the good news is, I do not have any course to take (other than Dutch) anymore in the second quarter, because my class has ended last October. But the bad news is, I plan to work on my internship (and there is still one report to go) in the second quarter. Hmmm, so I really have to manage my time a lot better.

Done!

And this week, I am proud to say that I finish my project (including the report) several days before the deadline! Yeah! I finished my analysis on the survival analysis project last Tuesday, and I finished the whole report today! The deadline is still next Monday though, so if I want, I actually still have two days to go to recheck and reread the report, hmmm.

So, that is pretty the story of my week now. I am going to Rotterdam in few minutes for a party at my friend’s place, haha!

BAHASA INDONESIA

Bener deh aku merasa minggu ini tuh menyibukkan sekali untukku. Maksudku, dalam hal workload total sebenarnya sih mungkin nggak terlalu beda banyak sama minggu-minggu lain ya; hanya saja, aku merasa hal-hal yang harus aku kerjakan minggu ini tuh bervariasi banget gitu, termasuk bocornya air ini, jadi rasanya ada lebih banyak kerjaan gitu deh.

Kelas Bahasa Belanda

Jadi, kelas bahasa Belanda level duaku dimulai minggu ini dengan dua pertemuan: satu di hari Senin dan satu di hari Kamis. Sejauh ini sih kursusnya baik-baik saja deh. Cuma memang aku harus menyesuaikan diri ke mode “harus belajar mempersiapkan materi kelas setidaknya 1,5 jam sebelum kelas biar nggak bengong waktu di kelas” lagi deh, setelah nggak berada dalam mode ini selama enam bulan terakhir (aku juga harus berada di mode seperti ini waktu ngambil kelas level pertamanya awal tahun ini).

Anyway, baru di pertemuan pertama aja ya, kelas ini sudah membuatku shock loh, karena ada tugas pertama: kami semua harus mempersiapkan presentasi selama dua menit dalam bahasa Belanda untuk kelas kedua (hari Kamis)! Reaksi pertamaku: “Apaaaa??” hahaha. Tapi kemudian, setelah dipikir-pikir lagi, sebenernya ini tugas biasa aja kan ya, presentasi dua menit gampang lah, nggak panjang-panjang amat juga, ya kan? hahaha . Ya udah, lalu di hari Kamis aku mempersiapkan presentasi ini deh. Jadi ceritanya ada 15an orang gitu sekelas, dan urutan presentasinya acak gitu. Dan akhirnya, karena waktunya nggak cukup untuk semua orang presentasi, sebagian nggak jadi presentasi deh, termasuk saya!  Arrrrgggghhhhh. Sial, udah capek-capek nyiapin presentasi akhirnya malah nggak jadi presentasi deh! Eh, tapi nggak papa sih, tetap ambil positifnya aja lah: toh aku juga sudah belajar kan dalam mempersiapkan presentasi itu?

Meeting

Kuarter depan, aku juga akan menjadi asisten di satu kelas untuk mahasiswa S1 lagi gitu, buat kerjaan paruh waktuku. Nah, aku ditugaskan di satu kelas untuk mahasiswa S1 internasional tahun pertama jurusan aerospace gitu deh. Kelasnya bakal dimulai dua minggu lagi; makanya ada meeting minggu ini buat membicarakan tentang cara main kelas ini Rabu lalu. Menurutku sih ya, kayaknya kelas yang kali ini bakal memakan lebih banyak waktuku dalam seminggu deh daripada kelas yang aku pegang kuarter lalu. Kabar baiknya sih aku sudah nggak ada kelas lagi (selain bahasa Belanda) di kuarter kedua, soalnya kelasku kan sudah berakhir Oktober lalu. Tapi berita buruknya, aku juga ada rencana untuk mengerjakan tugas magangku (dan ada satu report lagi yang harus dikerjakan nih), di kuarter kedua. Hmmm, jadi memang aku harus mengatur waktuku dengan lebih baik lagi nih.

Selesai!

Dan minggu ini, dengan bangga aku bisa bilang bahwa aku menyelesaikan satu proyek (termasuk report-nya) beberapa hari sebelum deadline! Yeah! Aku menyelesaikan analisa proyek Survival Analysis-ku Selasa lalu, dan tadi siang report-nya beres juga! Deadline-nya masih hari Senin sih, jadi sebenernya masih ada dua hari lagi kalo misalnya aku mau mengecek ulang atau membaca ulang report itu, hmmm.

Jadi, itulah kira-kira ceritaku minggu ini. Sekarang aku mau siap-siap buat ke Rotterdam ah, soalnya ada party di apartemennya temanku, haha!
